At the time of release, all the way back in 2011,The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimwas not just a hugely epic fantasy game, but it was also glorious to look at. Of course, over the years, the game has become somewhat aged, and whilethe recent release of the Anniversary Editioncomes with extra content and some graphical tweaks, it could always stand to look prettier in this day and age. Fortunately, dedicated creative types in the modding community have been working to always improve it, and a recent video shows what happens if you throw a load of mods at the game to really give it a boost.
A few days ago, a YouTube channel by the name of Digital Dreams uploaded a 13-minute video showing play footage captured inSkyrim. The title for the video says that the game has been heavily modded, with more than 1,300 add-ons installed, and visual improvements, such as ray tracing, with this iteration running at 8K resolution. The result is quite magnificent, with the game looking almost unrecognizable, with a smorgasbord of mods that make everything look incredible, with vibrant colors and new textures, as well as new sounds and just a whole vibrancy that doesn’t seem to exist in the vanilla game.

The description on YouTube also links back to a page on GutHub that lists the different add-ons that have been used, including some additional quests as well as an overhaul of the audio.Skyrimhas a ton of interesting and useful mods, many of which tweak the game to look even better, while others create new content to keep the already-expansive title going for even longer. It’s part and parcel of why the game has perhaps been so consistently popular for the last decade, and this video showing what the game looks like in 8K resolution only shows how far gaming has come since 2011.
People are always experimenting with the game to see how good they can make it look. Not long ago, someone else showedwhatSkyrimlooks like with more than 500 mods installed, again with a boost in the visual quality. It’s perhaps at this point that some will look back to the standard version of the game, and, despite it still looking pretty good even in 2021, proves that there’s always room for improvement on this, in terms of the industry at least, old game.
WithBethesda wantingThe Elder Scrolls 6to have as much shelf life asSkyrim, it will be interesting to see what the vanilla game will look like versus once people begin modding it. Of course, that’s not going to happen for a long time, but modders can continue to improve upon the studio’s original formula in the current games to give them a sort of new lease on life.
