Summary

AHalo 3player has shared their bizarre encounter with an Elite, while playing through the game’s campaign.Halo 3’s sandbox has produced a ton of hilarious moments over the years, and this one is definitely one of the most unique.

Released back in 2007,Halo 3was one of the premier Xbox 360 exclusives back in the day. Bungie evolved the series formula further fromHalo 2, producing a title that many gamers feel is the high point of the entire franchise. It was eventually re-released as part ofHalo: The Master Chief Collection, bringing arguably one of thebest multiplayer FPS games everto Xbox One and PC. The standard it set back in 2007 is what all modernHalotitles continue to be compared to, a compliment to its incredible legacy.

After defeating the two Scarabs in theHalo 3campaignmission, “The Covenant,” Redditor Common-Path9076 decided to swap weapons with a friendly Elite nearby. Taking the Elite’s rocket launcher, the NPC took the drastic measure of running off the side of the platform, falling to their death. It’s utterly bizarre, and doesn’t appear to have been prompted by anything the player has done. The clip is topped off by 343 Guilty Spark’s perfectly-timed quote, “Calamity! If only we had more time.”

Halo 3 Strange Elite Interaction

Gamers in the thread tried to figure out the strange situation, and most jokingly agreed that in taking the Elite’s rocket launcher, they had also taken away their reason to live. Over the years, there have been some hilariousHaloglitches, and this definitely joins the list. Away from the jokes, one player had an insightful take that might explain the real reason this happened inHalo 3. The gist of it explains that because the Elite is not supposed to cross the light bridge with Master Chief, its pathing after all enemies are dead would lead them to a specific corner of the map, so they can despawn. In this instance, the pathing leads them straight off the edge to their doom. While it’s just a theory, it’s certainly a plausible one.

AlthoughHalo 3is set to turn 17 years old later this year, its impact can still be felt in the series today. 343 Industries continues to update the latest title in the series,Halo Infinite, with a bunch of fresh content years after its initial release, although no news is forthcoming about a new iteration any time soon. ThelatestHalo Infiniteupdatewas a big one, introducing a new in-game store called The Exchange. Hopefully, the developer keeps up this level of support for years to come yet.
