AMarvel’s Spider-Man 2player captures hilarious footage of thugs arriving to battle Spider-Man only to make a break for it and drive off in another nearby car without stopping to fight. Since its release in late October,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2has become a massive hit for INsomniac and Sony both with reviewers and fans. In fact, just 24 hours after its launch on October 20,Spider-Man 2became the fastest selling PlayStation Studios gamewith 2.5 million copies sold.
Even being a highly rated exclusive title,Spider-Man 2isn’t immune to some occasional hiccups and issues. Players have reported a number of odd glitches and visual bugs impacting the experience including once bizarre instance of Miles turning into a white cube as he swings around New York. The weird and hilarious bug seemed to happen after switching suits and the game failing to load it properly, leaving the character largely invisible save for a white cube bouncing and moving around, even in combat and carrying NPCs to safety. The enemy AI also doesn’t always react as players would expect, like this once instance when roaming New York.
AmazonMason recorded a short clip of a very strange interaction with some street thugs. After finishing up one of the city alert missions while patrolling theopen world New York City inSpider-Man 2, a new set arrives in a car and proceed to hit Spider-Man with their car. Readying for a fight, the player is clearly surprised as the three enemies exit the car, run past a still Peter Parker, and enter another car nearby and then driving off as if nothing had happened at all.
The comments seemingly tried to fill in the thought process for the fleeing enemies, with one user in particular saying they saw the Symbiote Surge bar full and decided to make a run for it instead. Others commented that since hitting Spider-Man with the car didn’t really work, they decided to run while they could. Another player named chippy-triforce shared another strange crime alert incident inSpider-Man 2, after chasing criminals in a car, they suddenly merged into traffic, slowed down, and the alert notification went away. It would seem that there may be a few AI issues present in these open world activities.
While not a glitch or bug, Insomniac came under a fair share of controversy from players when it was discovered that the wrong flag was displayed in the Morales household. The flag depicted in the house was that of Cuba instead of Puerto Rico, which is Rio and Miles heritage. Insomniac apologized for the error andrecently issued an update toSpider-Man 2which correctly fixed the incorrect instances, so the flag is now correctly of Puerto Rico.
