A quick glance at the game’s Steam page reveals thatRedfallboasts support for 14 different languages, ten of which have their own localized dubs. However, early adopters have come to find that changing the language inRedfallis nowhere near as simple as it should be, with the option completely absent fromthe game’s settings menu.

The good news is that it is possible to change the language inRedfall, at least for some players, anyway. Unfortunately, however, the process for doing so is far from a simple one, as it requires players to make sweeping changes to their system in order for the game to default to their language of choice.

How to Change the Language in Redfall

Sadly, at the time of writing, only PC players will be able to change the language inRedfall. To do so, they’ll need to change the default language of their device to the language that they want to use in-game from the system settings menu. It’s not a particularly elegant solution, but until Bethesda releases a patch, it’s the only known fix. Unfortunately, for thoseplaying the game on Xbox, there is no way to change the language inRedfallat launch, as it appears to be tied to the region of the player’s Xbox account.

In order to change the system language on PC, players will need to open up the Settings app and then head to the “Time & Language” sub-menu. From there, they’ll want tochange the Windows display language option to the language that they’d like to use in-game. This may require them to add the language that they want to use to the list of preferred languages, which can be done with just a few clicks (though downloading and installing the language pack may take a little while).

Why Would Someone Want to Change Language in Redfall?

Some native English speakers may be wondering why anybody would want to playRedfallin any language other than their mother tongue, but there are actually plenty of good reasons for wanting to do so. For one thing, the process oflocalizing video gamesis not always an accurate one, with key details and nuance often getting lost in translation. Certain idioms and expressions, for example, do not exist outside of the English language, so trying to recapture their meaning in other languages can be next to impossible.

Additionally, some developers treat localization as an afterthought, with the lion’s share of the budget for voice acting being spent on the English dub. With this in mind, players may want to experience what they consider to bethe superior dub, or even switch to a different language in which they’re not quite as well versed in order to learn and practice as they play. Ultimately, though, a player’s reasons for wanting to change the language inRedfalldon’t really matter beyond them wanting to get an advertised feature that they paid good money for.
