There’s a whole new world to explore on Ginger Island inStardew Valley. When you’ve finally unlocked this area, you’re able to meet new people and animals,create your own island farm, and even unlock new items to pick up. Some of these items you can purchase fromthe Island Traderin exchange for other goods.

The Island Trader, however, isn’t simply unlocked the minute you arrive at Ginger Island. Instead, you’ll need to provide a few items in exchange to get the Island Trader’s hut built. If you’re new to the area and aren’t sure how you can unlock this useful feature, here’s what you can do.

How to Unlock the Island Trader in Stardew Valley

To reach the Island Trader, you’ll first need toarrive at Ginger Island.This area will become available to you after youcomplete all the Community Center Bundlesor when you havecompleted the Joja Warehouse.Once you’ve done this, you’ll then need tofix Willy’s Boat, which you’ll be introduced to the next time you visit Willy’s Shop. Willy will send you a letter in the mail allowing you to visit the back room of his shop where the boat is located. To fix it, you’ll need:

After you’ve provided allthe necessary items for repair, you’ll eventually be able to visit the back room and purchase a1,000g boat ticket to get to Ginger Island. When you arrive here, you’ll want to head straight into the next area. Keep straight and at the back, you’ll finda parrot on a perchthat you may approach. He will require you to give him10 Golden Walnutsin order to build the trading hut. When you’ve provided the required amount, the shop will immediately unlock, and you’ll have full access to it.

Golden Walnuts can be found all over the island, with130 in total.The best way to go about tracking them down is tovisit Leo’s home,found in the eastern section of Ginger Island. Inside, there will be a parrot that can provide you withhints on where to find some ofthe Golden Walnuts.

Now that you’ve provided the parrot with the required Golden Walnuts, you’ll have access to anextensive collection sold by the Island Trader.Instead of taking money, though, all of his items will be available as trades,similar to the Desert Trader. This means you’ll need to provide him with other goods in return to receive his wares. Below is everything he has in stock.

Plant these in warm weather. Takes 10 days to mature. Grows faster if planted near a body of water.

Plant these in warm weather. Takes 14 days to mature, and keeps producing fruit after that.

This is one tough nut to crack, but a professional might be able to break it open.

Banana Sapling

Takes 28 days to produce a mature Banana tree. Bears fruit in the summer, or all year round when planted on Ginger Island.

Mango Sapling

Takes 28 days to produce a mature Mango tree. Bears fruit in the summer, or all year round when planted on Ginger Island.
