TheMortal Kombat 11Joker DLC launches on January 28, but clips of the new character have already been revealed by NetherRealm Studios. So far, fans have gotten a look at Joker’s Fatalities, Brutalities, alternate costumes, and some of his dialogue. Some of The Joker’s dialogue inMortal Kombat 11is particularly interesting, as it teases the next installment in theInjusticefighting game franchise.

It’s been discovered that if players haveThe Jokerfight himself, the dialogue they exchange references a potentialInjustice 3game. The exchange goes like:

Joker 1: We’ll have to make do as a dynamic duo.

Joker 2: Only two of us? That’s an injustice!

Joker 1: What we could do with a third.

The use of the word “injustice” is telling, thoughMortal Kombat 11game director Ed Boon himself has tweeted about the intro, insisting that it has nothing to do withInjustice 3. Another possibility is that the dialogue is in reference to the Batman: Three Jokers comic books, but Boon has been known to troll fans on social media, so it’s really hard to say one way or another.

There are many instances of Boon trolling fans on Twitter, often teasing them about things likeMileena DLCand the like. Considering this, it’s quite possible that Boon is doing the same thing here. It just seems odd to use the word “injustice” and reference a “third” when the studio behindMortal Kombat 11has another series calledInjusticethat is going on its third entry.

BothInjustice: Gods Among UsandInjustice 2were big hits, so it seems like anInjustice 3seems like an inevitability. And with next-generation consoles on the way, it seems like it will soon be the perfect time to bring the series back with a fresh coat of paint and new features. However, it’s also possible that NetherRealm will be moving forward withMortal Kombat 12next instead, or maybe it will surprise everyone and do something completely different.

Before fans need to concern themselves with NetherRealm’s next game, though, it may be prudent to wait for the rest of theMortal Kombat 11DLC to release. After The Joker DLC launches on January 28, there’s stillSpawn DLCto look forward to in March, plus the possibility of a second Kombat Pack. With potentially a lot more content still left to come forMortal Kombat 11, it may be quite a long wait until we see anything aboutInjustice 3or whatever NetherRealm’s next game is.

Mortal Kombat 11is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
