Where some studios would churn out DLC packs to expand their games, Guerrilla has only given itsHorizontitles one expansion each. These expansions have proven extremely successful with the fan base, yet neither game ever got a second one. However, because this next chapter is likely the finale of a trilogy, it would be the perfect time to change that.
Horizon: Forbidden West’s Sequel Could Do So Much With Multiple DLC Adventures
The Horizon Series Has Shined With Its DLC Packs
A couple of months afterHorizon Zero Dawnwas met with acclaim, Guerilla releasedthe fantastic The Frozen Wilds expansion pack. This took Aloy on a brand-new adventure that saw her conquer even greater foes, and just like the base game, it was also met with immense praise upon release. However, even though it was successful, Guerrilla chose to end the story there to focus its attention on the sequel.
In 2022,Horizon Forbidden Westblew audiences away yet again as it took everything good about the first game and did it better. Because of that success, the studio once again expanded the story even further withthe Burning Shores expansion. That story was also received very well, with many calling it a fantastic epilogue. But just like with the first game, Guerrilla ended up bundling the pack into theHorizon Forbidden West Complete Editiona couple of months later, which all but confirms that this is the only DLC planned.
The Next Horizon Game is the Perfect Place to Explore New Corners of this World
That makes twoHorizongames with only one DLC each, which is a shame. While it is nice that the studio does not overwhelm its player base with post-launch content, some players are craving even more adventures within Guerrilla’s world. But instead of giving them that, the studio seems to be quickly moving on to the next title. And that approach should really change withHorizon Forbidden West’s sequel.
While nothing has been revealed about the sequel quite yet, it will likely be the finale of the current story arc. Usually, stories tend to come in trilogies, and the ending ofHorizon Forbidden Westseemingly sets up a final major confrontation to come. So, if it is indeedthe final chapter of Aloy’s current adventure, then it needs to end with a bang. Not only does the main story need to be a fantastic ride, but there should also be plenty of post-launch adventures for players to explore, as there could be a long wait between the end of Aloy’s story and whatever comes after.
Even ifHorizon Forbidden West’s sequel only gets two expansions, it would still be a welcome change of pace. This title will have the impossible task of bringing everything together to a satisfying conclusion, and DLC packs could help with that. Maybe players get to explore the original game’s locations to see how far they have come or get to see events from other characters' perspectives. Perhaps these packs simply serve as a way to tell one last Aloy story before she heads off into the sunset. Whatever form they may take, the nextHorizongame feels like a perfect opportunity for Guerrilla to expand the world a bit further than it has been post-launch.
