Director ofThe Suicide SquadJames Gunn has shot down the rumor of Bane making his live-action DC Extended Universe (DCEU) debut in the upcomingPeacemakerseries on HBO Max. Yesterday it was reported that Bane would be showing up in the live-action television series spin-off ofThe Suicide Squad, which was recently released in theaters to a great reception.

The Suicide Squaddebuted a huge number of anti-heroes, includingJohn Cena’s Peacemaker. His character is a very flawed individual who is obsessed with keeping the peace no matter the cost, even if it means killing a bunch of people and not taking into account their happiness.

Rumors claimedBane would make his DCEU debut inPeacemaker, which sounds like a very odd pairing on paper. However, there were very few enemies inThe Suicide Squadwho gave Peacemaker a challenge, so if there was going to be someone who would, it would definitely be Bane (assuming the two would engage in combat). The rumor being shot down comes from Gunn’s Twitter account, where he engaged with several different people while denying Bane’s appearance inPeacemakerand insisting that he never will, nor has he ever, lied about things like this.

Right now plot details forPeacemakerare unknown and fans don’t even have a trailer yet, so it would be wise for everyone involved to take a wait-and-see approach. For some reason, it seems leaks are very common for comic book movies, especially on DC’s side. It’s as if none of the secrets remain hidden until the movie’s release. In the event that Bane was to end up in thePeacemakershow, maybe it was a decision by DC that Gunn is unfamiliar with during post-production.

Either way, it’s likely that fans won’t know anything until theDC Fandome event happens on October 16th, 2021. The event is slated to drop a multitude of reveals for upcoming DC properties for the coming years. Video games, comic books, television shows, and movies will all make an appearance at the virtual convention. As far as DC comic books go, they’ve been playing catch up to Marvel in the live-action department for a long time but it seems they’re finally catching their stride.

As far as thePeacemakerseries goes, DC could’ve picked a better character from the movie for their own series. The show has a high chance of succeeding, especially with Gunn attached to it, but there were way more compelling characters in the movie that deserved more storytelling, including Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, Amanda Waller, or even the fan-favorite Harley Quinn.

Peacemakeris currently scheduled to be released on HBO Max in 2022.
