Sony Pictureshas released a newMorbiusfeaturette just days before the film’s official premiere. The minute-long video features Jared Leto talking about his character Dr. Michael Morbius, and how he is a “stand out persona in Marvel lore.” But, does he fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Leto has an answer, which will leave fans speculating and possibly even formulating several theories.
As part of the specialMorbiusfeaturette released bySony Pictures, Leto talks about the mystery surrounding the protagonist, and the new world that he has to discover. He briefly touches uponthe subject of the Multiverse, and how Morbius is now a part of a “much larger universe.” While it may seem like a passing comment, fans are likely to hold on to his every word because it could be a big hint for the future of the character in the MCU.

As part ofPhase 4 of the MCU, the Multiverse has already been established. Multiple references have been made to it in both films and television series, includingLoki,What If…?, and most recentlySpider-Man: No Way Home. Seeing Leto talking about how “the Multiverse has officially opened” isn’t just a mere coincidence, and what’s fascinating to note is his observation on how there are “possibilities for villains to meet up.”
To add to the hints of Morbius' involvement in the MCU, Tyrese Gibson’s Simon Stroud is seen being informed by a fellow officer about “that thing in San Francisco.” The obvious connection here would be Venom. Both Morbius and Venom have at some point gone up against Spider-Man in the Marvel Comics. With Tom Hardy;s Eddie Brock appearing in themid-credits scene inSpider-Man: No Way Home, the character has been officially welcomed by the MCU. So, it seems only natural to add Morbius to the long list of MCU characters.
After several delays,Morbiusfinally arrives in theaters soon, bringing one of the most conflicted characters and anti-heroes in the Marvel Comics to the big screen. While Morbius does serve as an adversary to Spider-Man in the comics at one point, he goes on to become a vigilante, while he struggles with his lust for blood. The trailers and previously released exclusive scenes fromMorbiushave already established that Leto’s character fights a rare blood disorder and experiments with a cure that transforms him into a creature. It remains to be seen how much of his journey will be captured the film adaptation.
