Spider-Man: No Way Homeis right around the corner, and if the upcoming MCU installment couldn’t be more hyped, the confirmed addition of Tom Hardy’s Venom in the ongoing cinematic universe has raised the excitement and has fans speculating about where these stories could lead to. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has now spoken out about the recent addition, and why now is the best time for the move.

Hardy reprised his role as the host of the alien symbiote in this year’sVenom: Let There Be Carnage, where he faced off against Cletus Kassidy, the serial killer who becomes the host of the symbiote known as Carnage.InVenom 2’s post-credits scene, Eddie and Venom are on vacation before they are transported to another universe, as a flash of light sets off a change in their hotel room surroundings. The two then look over at their TV where Tom Holland’sSpider-Manis shown soon after his secret identity was exposed at the end ofSpider-Man: Far From Home.

Feige sat down with Collider, talkingSpider-Man: No Way Homeand what fans can expect from the epicconclusion to theSpider-Man: Homecomingtrilogy. However, he also touched on the inspiration of having Venom join the MCU. Other than praising Sony’s work on its separate Spider-Man/Marvel films and Tom Hardy’s portrayal as Eddie Brock/Venom, Feige shared, “You look at the obvious comic connotations between Venom and Spider-Man and it is inherent. So the minute Sony made their Venom movie and it worked as well as it did, and Tom Hardy became as iconic as he has become as Venom, then the obvious question is then, ‘How do we start to merge them?'”

While Venom is now confirmed to be featured in the MCU, there’s no telling if the character will appear inSpider-Man: No Way Home, especially when considering all of the other characters that are already on board. Villains like Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock andWillem Dafoe’s Green Goblinfrom Sam Raimi’sSpider-Man trilogyto Jamie Foxx’s Electro fromThe Amazing Spider-Man 2are certain to have plenty of screentime. So, maybe a cameo from Venom or a brief appearance in one of the film’s post-credits scenes that sets up his role in future films seems more likely.

Hardy’s involvement with Holland’s Spider-Man has been a concept many fans have been looking forward to for years. After the deal between Sony and Marvel Studios to collaborate on future Spider-Man films and integrate more iconic comic book characters into the MCU, it seems as if there is no better time to have the two characters finally meet.
