With Crystal Dynamics currently focusing its efforts onMarvel’s Avengerswith a new roadmap, some of its prior successes and franchises have been left on the wayside. This includes the complex narrative series,The Legacy of Kain. The current fate of the franchise is in limbo, gradually becoming radio silent ever since publisher Eidos was acquired by Square Enix. However, a rumor has recently popped up regarding a possible of a remaster ofLegacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.
The franchise has been silent since 2016 when a team-based multiplayer game calledNosgoth,which took place in the same universe, was cancelled. The only other news regarding a game in the franchise in recent years was theshowcase of the cancelledLegacy of Kain: Dead Sunfrom Climax Studios. Since then, fans have had very little, but with this rumor there might be another chance for the series.

This rumor was covered on The Xbox Era by insider Shpeshal Nick. He said this rumor came from the same source behinda rumored reboot to id Software’sQuakefranchise, who claims there will allegedly be a remaster ofLegacy of Kain: Soul Reaverfrom Crystal Dynamics.Nick said he tried to clarify that it will be a remaster and not a remake, but no further clarification was given to him. They said this remastered title is looking to be announced this year, with the possibility of it popping up at a major gaming showcase.
Legacy of Kainfans have been teased about a new entry or remake of a game for years now. The last known rumor regardingThe Legacy of Kainseries wasa remake forBlood Omen: Legacy of Kainlast year, helmed by Bluepoint Games. However, no such announcement has came to pass, as the leak claimed it would appear at Sony’s PlayStation event in summer 2020.
It was suggested that the announcement of this rumoredSoul Reaverremaster would be at either The Game Awards or Gamescom. However, this possibility is merely speculation, and only time will tell if it comes to pass. In the meantime, almost everyLegacy of Kaintitle is available for purchase on Steam. There are still fans dedicated to this series, with one providing their ownHD Remaster ofSoul Reaverthrough a recent mod.
