Summary
WithLokiseason 2 concluded and its titular character given a new position in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s at least one more important moment left for the former trickster god to share with fans, and leading man Tom Hiddleston has some deep insight on the subject.
Lokiseason 2 fans long expected that Hiddleston’s character would reunite with his brother Thor, which was strengthened whenaLokiproducer confirmed the Thor reunionwould happen and that the show was a part of setting up that reunion. However,Lokiseason 2 concluded with the God of Mischief using himself to hold the Multiverse together, raising doubts about a reunion with Thor.

While speaking withComicBook, Hiddleston addressed theinevitable reunion with Thorand how it tied intoLoki."[The reunion] would be one of extreme surprise and confusion, in a way," Hiddleston said. “Also, it’s really interesting that in season two, a great thread of season two — not just for Loki but for every character, [for] Mobius and Sylvie — is: are we in charge of our own story?” Fans of the show are familiar with the eventual answer that Loki comes to and how it might facilitate that meeting. Hiddleston outlined how the events in the MCU since Loki and Thor separated will play in an eventual reconciliation.
You can’t know where you are going until you know where you’ve been, and you have to integrate your past and take responsibility for it so that you can move forward into the future with meaning and purpose. And I think both Thor and Loki have had to excavate and analyze the past and who they feel they really are and what they really want. But what’s interesting about family as well — this is just me thinking about it — is sometimes it will be difficult to let go of the preconception of who they used to be. Loki might be expecting Thor to behave in a certain way, or be a certain way. Thor might be expecting Loki to be a certain way."
“I think initially it would be really confusing, but also they’d been apart for a long time, and no doubt they’ve been objects in each other’s mind,” Hiddleston said, concluding. “And so yeah, I think a reunion would likely be [confusing for them]. We’ll see.” So far, the closest fans have come to seeing the two together was when aLokideleted scene revealed Hemsworth’s Frog Thorin action to hilarious effect. However, Hiddleston’s comments and analysis of the state of affairs between the two certainly give weight to a reunion coming soon rather than later for the brothers, who parted on a promise that the sun would shine on them again.
With the assurance that Loki is far from done with the MCU and his reunion with his brother is imminent, the only real point of concern is the franchise keeping above water long enough for it to happen. Despite being the most successful project in a while,Lokiseason 2 viewership failed to match the firstin the clearest indicator of Marvel fatigue yet. How well the rapidly changing approach to the franchise addresses the issues remains to be seen.
Lokiseasons 1-2 are currently available for streaming on Disney Plus.
