The highly anticipatedMarvel’s Spider-Man 2has taken a major step closer to release, at least according to Peter Parker himself. 2018’sMarvel’s Spider-Manwowed PS4 owners withits blistering web-swinging gameplayand emotional writing that brilliantly captured the central themes of Marvel’s most famous hero. Developer Insomniac Games would continue its superhero saga in 2020 withSpider-Man: Miles Morales, a PlayStation 5 launch title that put the spotlight on the titular young hero as he struggled to come into his own as a protector of New York City.
In September 2021, Insomniac revealed thatMarvel’s Spider-Man 2would swing onto the PS5 sometime in 2023. Not much is known yet about the upcoming sequel’s gameplay or plot, save that both Peter and Miles would be playable this time and that they will face off against the monstrous Venom after the Symbiote was teased in the previous twoMarvel’s Spider-Manentries. Fans have been counting the months untilMarvel’s Spider-Man 2finally launches, and one particular wall-crawling part of the game’s cast has hinted that development is going along smoothly.

Yuri Lowenthal, the actor who portrays Peter Parker in theMarvel’s Spider-Mangames (andmore recentlyMarvel’s Midnight Suns), recently hosted an AMA session onr/Skyboundeariler this week. While most of the session was focused on his role as Huckleberry the Cat in the soon-to-be-releasedHomestead Arcana, one fan asked if he was finished doing motion-capture work forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2. He quickly answered “Yup, all done,” prompting another user to ask if this meant the rest of the cast was finished as well.
While an exact release date forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2hasn’t been confirmed yet, Insomniac did announce that it should come out sometime in the fall.Venom voice actor Tony Toddwould briefly add fuel to the discussion last month when he claimed thatMarvel’s Spider-Man 2is releasing in September before retracting this statement the following day. In the meantime, marketing forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2has already begun. An actual webbed-up car was sighted in Malaysia as part of Sony’s “Live From PlayStation” ad campaign earlier this year, and Tony Todd also hinted that a massive push for the game will start in August.
Motion capture is a major part of any modern triple-A video game, andMarvel’s Spider-Man 2is no different. It isn’t clear if Yuri Lowenthal’s recent statement means that only he is done or if all mocap for the game has been finished, but it’s a strong indication thatMarvel’s Spider-Man 2is one step closer to launching on the PlayStation 5 later this year.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is scheduled to release in fall 2023 for PS5.
