Microsoft’s next-generation console, theXbox Series X, is set to launch in just about a month’s time. The top of the line console will be the most powerful video game console on the market when it hits store shelves, but there have been some reports indicating that theXbox Series Xruns especially hot as a result. However, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has since pushed back on those claims, as have games industry journalists.
Greenberg was asked about the supposed Xbox Series X overheating issue by a fan on Twitter, explaining that the Xbox Series X exhausts heat normally. Greenberg also said that the Xbox engineering team has confirmed that the heat outputted by the Xbox Series X is not that far off from the heat that comes out of the Xbox One X console. Greenberg added that this matches his experience with the Xbox Series X console at his home, and added that it’s quiet, fast, and has impressive power for its size.

For the uninitiated, theXbox Series X overheating reportsstarted in a since-removed video uploaded by Jeux Video’s Ken Bogard. Translated by VGC, Bogard reportedly said that the Xbox Series X runs so hot that “you’re able to heat up your flat with it” and he went as far as to compare it to a fireplace shaft. In a separate instance, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Bakkalar appeared in a video where he talked about how the Xbox Series X was giving off a lot of heat, even in standby mode. Bakkalar then seemed to burn his hand when removing anXbox Series X expandable storage cardfrom the console.
Of course, given the fact that Greenberg is employed by Microsoft as part of the Xbox team, he has a vested interest in the console’s success, and could be considered biased. However, Greenberg isn’t the only one that’s pushed back against the Xbox Series X overheating claims. While The Verge’s Tom Warren was unable to go into too much detail due to an embargo agreement, he did suggest that theXbox Series X heat output was exaggerated, pointing out that Microsoft wouldn’t have sent the console to so many people if it was a serious issue.
And in fact, there are many publications that already have their hands on an Xbox Series X console and haven’t reported anything similar. In fact, most of theXbox Series X hands-on previewshave been positive, with praise given to the console’s super-fast load times and how quietly it runs compared to current-generation consoles.
At this point, it seems safe to say that the Xbox Series X overheating claims have been debunked, and fans should be able to pick up the next-generation console, or itsXbox Series Scounterpart, without worry.
