Run-and-gun shooters remain one of the most popular genres in gaming, alongside platformers and RPGs. Originating in the heyday of arcade cabinets, run-and-gun shooters now have a lot of variety thanks to modern technology. That being said, many fans still clamor for the likes ofMetal SlugandContra, which has created a niche for indie games likeMighty Gooseto tap into.
Blastmode’s debut titleis a run-and-gun shooter where players assume the role of a bounty-hunting goose. Slated for release next month, Game Rant had the opportunity to talk with developer Richard Lems aboutMighty Goose, wherein he revealed some details about the levels that players will get to explore in-game, including aMad Max-themed level.

Mighty Gooseharkens back to thearcade days of run-and-gun shooters, but seems to have a lot more variety when it comes to environments. From the available screenshots and footage released thus far, fans can see a forest-themed level, a level set against caves, as well as wastelands and seemingly mechanized factories. Lems saidMighty Goosefeatures nine levels, including aMad Max-themed level which is his personal favorite.

“This mission has Mighty Goose jumping from vehicle to vehicle in aMad Max-style vehicle convoy. It also includes a segment with the Goose Bike which ups the adrenaline even more. The soundtrack here is a banger, the dynamic environment and the pure chaos in this level makes it my favorite.”
The Steam page forMighty Gooseincludes a GIF where protagonist Mighty Goose can be seen traveling on the Goose Bike against the backdrop of a desert ruin. Despite having a 16-bit art style,Mighty Goosecomes close tocapturing the aesthetic ofMad Max, and there’s a good chance that this level might be a highlight for many players.
Mighty Gooseisn’ta long RPG by any means. Lems said a typical playthrough should last three hours, which excludes secrets and unlockable content. Tracking them down should increase the runtime, plus there’s a New Game+ mode for those looking to unlock all achievements. Lems describesMighty Gooseas “a short and sweet experience.”
The relatively short runtime shouldn’t be mistaken for a lack of depth in mechanics. Lems said that there’s a lot of depth to be found in theMighty Goose’s combat.
“The gameplay inMighty Gooseis a bit faster than the typical run-and-gun game. Using a combination of roll-jumps, hover shots and honks, Mighty Goose can practically fly through enemy encounters. In that regard it kind of feels a bit likeDead CellsmeetsMetal Slug. This level of mastery takes some practice, but I think one of the big hooks of the game is getting in that flow and seeing the carnage unfold.”
Mighty Gooseis slated to release on July 08, 2025 on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
