Building large-scale projects inMinecraftcan be remarkably fulfilling and deeply rewarding for people who choose to dabble in it. While the game was initially advertised for its survival mode – about players carving out their own corner in a dangerous world – thecreative mode ofMinecraftis what ultimately cemented the voxel sandbox as one of the top-selling video games of all time.
There are countless examples of player ingenuity and unwavering diligence when it comes to pushing the boundaries ofMinecraft’s creative mode. One needs to look no further than the highly ambitious community projects that faithfully recreate the lands of Middle-earth or theworld of Harry Potter withinMinecraft.

Other times, the projects are made by a single person – as is the case with Sam2as, a talentedMinecraftbuilder from France who created a sprawling Mayan city all by himself. The first thing that jumps out in this Mesoamerican build is the striking color scheme that its author chose to employ. Teal, green, and orange make the structures of the temple complex pop out through the jungle in a vibrant way.
The main ziggurat features an imposing statue that was initially a standalone build before becoming the centerpiece of the Mayan city. Extending from the temple is a majestic road adorned with towers and lined with stairs that lead into the other areas of thisMinecraftbuild, eventually ending at the outskirts of the city proper.
The post was positively met in theMinecraftcommunity, with many people claiming that it’s one of the best Mesoamerican builds they’ve ever seen. WhileMinecraft’sjungle biomedoes have naturally-generated temples hidden away behind its thick foliage, none are quite as imposing or as stunning as the one made by the author.
Mojang’s recent updates forMinecrafthave often been compared to an overhaul that’s been long overdue, dramatically building and expanding upon existing parts of the game in an attempt to make un-moddedMinecraftas deep and rich as possible. Caves and Cliffs already made the Overworld a lot more varied and unpredictable, introducing a plethora of new blocks, raising the world’s maximum height, and broadening the diversity of mountain biomes and naturally generated caves.
Minecraftcontinues to expand upon the Overworld with The Wild update, introducing palatial structures known as Ancient Cities in the new Deep Dark biome. Perhaps one of the next builds to grace theMinecraftcommunity could be a subterranean Aztec city. One thing is certain: the new blocks introduced withThe Wild will keepMinecraftplayers occupied.
Minecraftis available now for PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and legacy platforms.
