Mission: Impossible 7is a little less than a year away, but that doesn’t there is nothing to discuss. After following the success ofMission: Impossible Fallout, Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie look to continue their hot streak of creating some of the most thrilling action the big screen has ever presented.
Kicking off in 1996 as a reboot of the popular 1960s television series of the same name, Brian De Palma’sMission: Impossibletook the world by storm, introducing a unique world of espionage that is all elevated by the talented Tom Cruise starring in the titular role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt. Ever since then, the franchise has only become bigger. Bigger budgets, bigger stunts, bigger stars. What’s most surprising, though, is that each film has gotten better reviews from critics as the series has progressed (the most recentFalloutcurrently has a 97% on rotten tomatoes), so it’s clear thatMission: Impossible 7has big expectations to fill. Here’s everything we know about the next entry.

Release Date and Production
Riding off of the success of the last film, there was no question that another film would be made. It was back in January of 2019 that Cruise announced thatMission: Impossible 7andMission: Impossible 8would be filmed back-to-back, but it was later addressed in early 2021 that that would not be the casedue to the COVID-19 pandemic(withMission: Impossible 8now set for August 10, 2025). After many delays and much uncertainty, a final release date forMission: Impossible 7has been slated for June 05, 2025.
Principal photography was a rigorous journey. From a controversy performing a train explosion stunt on a well known railway bridge in Poland to leaked videos of Tom Cruise furiously yelling at crew members for not following COVID-19 protocols and numerous halts in production, filming was finally able to resume in locations like Venice, Rome, London, Norway, and Switzerland. An early picture of one of the stunts fans will get to experience was posted early in production by McQuarrie himself. No amount of setbacks will be able to stop Cruise and the rest of the crewfrom accomplishing some of the biggest stuntsthis series still has yet to witness.
Title and Cast
No official title for the film has been announced. As of now, it still remains asMission: Impossible 7, but with how much McQuarrie is sharing with users all over social media, a title drop within the next couple of months wouldn’t be unlikely.
For the returning cast, Tom Cruise will of course reprise his role as team leader Ethan Hunt, Ving Rhames will be back as Luther Stickell, the group’s computer technician, and Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson will return as well as Benji Dunn and llsa Faust, respectively. Henry Czerny, who is reprising his role as Eugene Kittridge for the first time since the first film, was added to the cast in early 2020. Vanessa Kirby will also make her second appearance in the franchise, as she first appeared in the last film as Alanna Mistopolis (White Widow), a black arms dealer who is the daughter of Max Mistopolis, an antagonist in the first film.
Angela Bassett confirmed that she will not be returning as Erika Sloane and there is still no word on Jeremy Renner’s William Brandt, who starred in 2011’sMission: Impossible - Ghost Protocoland 2015’sMission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, if he will be involved with the film or not (most likely due to film theDisney+ series,Hawkeye).
As for newMission: Impossible 7cast members, Marvel star Pom Klementieff joined the film in an undisclosed role, as well as Cary Elwes.Peggy Carter’s Hayley Atwellwas cast as Grace, an ambiguous character with questionable loyalties. Nicholas Hoult was originally set to play the film’s main villain, but due to scheduling conflicts, he was replaced by Esai Morales.
Plot
Taking a look at the cast, and knowing the original plan to filmMI7andMI8back-to-back, there’s the feeling that this long-running franchise may be coming to its end. Judging by the returning characters from the first, it seemsMission: Impossible 7will tell a more personal story that relies more on storylines and character arcs from past films, particulary the first one. Knowing thatMI8will follow, it wouldn’t be surprising if these next two films resemble a part 1 and part 2 type of feel, withMission: Impossible 7setting up the climactic events of the next one. Either way, nothing is 100% confirmed, but expect there to be more details soon.
Footage
No teaser or trailer has been released, although many pictures and posts have hinted at some of the locations and possible sequences that will take place. Again, a trailer or any details will likely be released/confirmed closer to the October/November time, so fans will have to keep an eye out for those, but in the meantime, there will be plenty of time to catch up on the entire series ahead ofMI7’srelease date.
Mission: Impossible 7is set to release in theatres on June 25, 2025 andwill be followed by a streaming release on Paramount+ in July 2022.
