Back in February of 2019, aPEGI listing leaked the existenceof aCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2remaster. Nothing official has been announced since then, but now the game has appeared on yet another ratings board, this time one in South Korea.
What’s interesting is that the ratings board names the gameCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, indicating that multiplayer may not be part of the package. While theModern Warfare 2campaign received quite a lot of critical acclaim back at the time of its release, many would argue that the real draw of such a remaster would be reliving the game’s online multiplayer component.

However, not all hope is lost when it comes to theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2remaster having multiplayer. There appears to be some disagreement about this, but frequentCall of Dutyleaker TheGamingRevolutionhas said that multiplayer is indeed coming, though it’s possible that it will come at some point after the campaign.
One reason why Activision may be reluctant to remaster theModern Warfare 2multiplayer is to avoid competing with itself. After all,Call of Dutyfans only have so much time in the day, and aModern Warfare 2remaster with multiplayer would potentially hurt the online populations ofCall of Duty: Modern WarfareandBlack Ops 4. Then again, theCall of Duty 4remasterdidn’t seem to cause any negative effect like that, so it’s hard to say if that is even a legitimate concern.
As for when aCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2remaster could release, that remains to be seen. Rumors have said that theModern Warfare 2remaster is coming in 2020, but others think that it will drop in 2021 instead. Regardless of when the leakedModern Warfare 2remaster releases, though, it’s clear that there are plenty ofCall of Dutygames on the way that should keep fans of the franchise plenty busy for the long-term.
We know for sure that a main seriesCall of Dutyis coming this year, and there are rumors that Sledgehammer is making afree-to-playCoDfor 2021. Even if the free-to-playCall of Dutyand theModern Warfare 2remaster don’t materialize, though, fans will have atleastone main seriesCall of Dutygame to play each year for the foreseeable future.
