The open beta for theSuper Smash Bros.-like fighting gameMultiVersusis now in Early Access, available to anyone willing to spend 60 minutes earning a Twitch Drop. The full open beta launch, granting full access to the free-to-play game, will start on July 26. Not only are players diving intoMultiVersus, discovering their mains, and unlocking new characters, but modders are dipping their toes in the water, too. In one example, aMultiVersusmodder has even added a Super Smash Bros. character skin to the game.Modder and YouTube content creator Junior shared a video on Twitter recently showing off his work inMultiVersus. The mod, one of the first of its kind, addsSuper Smash Bros.’s Link toMultiVersus. It’s not a gameplay mod, of course. It just applies Link’sThe Legend of Zeldamodel in replacement to one ofMultiVersus' fighters. In this case, Junior chose to replace Wonder Woman with Link, perhaps because she’s the only freely unlocked character in the game.RELATED:MultiVersus Open Beta Players Warned About Restrictive Battle Pass ProgressionIn this case, Wonder Woman is an optimal choice for swapping in Link. She wields both a sword and a shield in-game, exactly what Link would require.Super Smash Bros.players will also appreciate Wonder Woman’s down smash attack, which looks near identical to Link’s traditional move. There are some odd moves that don’t cross over particularly perfectly, of course.Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truthwhip isn’t a traditionalThe Legend of Zeldaweapon. In addition, Wonder Woman is able to fly horizontally and punch their opponent, which Link looks a bit odd doing.

Regardless, Junior’s work convertingThe Legend of Zeldamodel intoMultiVersusdeserves to be acknowledged as quite impressive. They likely didn’t have to change any of the character’s animations, but Link looks to have been converted to Wonder Woman’s model very smoothly.

An important detail to note is that, sinceMultiVersusis an online multiplayer game, mods may or may not eventually end up entirely banned by Warner Bros. Games. Junior explains that, as of right now, the Link mod works fine online since it only alters the perspective of the player using it. It doesn’t change any online content. Modders should be wary that this could change in the future, though.

Super Smash Bros.fans are likely already imagining all manner of mods that could bring their favorite characters toMultiVersus. Mario could replace Shaggy, Pikachu could replace Reindog, and Young Link could replace Finn, just for some basic ideas. It doesn’t just have to beSuper Smash Bros.characters, either. Modders will certainly be experimenting with some more creative options going forward, too.

MultiVersusOpen Beta releases July 26 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S and is available now in Early Access.
