The successor toNintendo’s defunct Club Nintendo service, My Nintendo is a loyalty program that allows avid purchasers and players ofNintendoproducts to collect and redeem points for digital and physical knickknacks. While the service has traditionally focused on digital goodies, Nintendo saw fit to introduce small physical rewards in 2020, abruptly discontinuing them in 2021. However, as of March 2022, a number of physical prizes returned to the My Nintendo site.
Nintendo seems to be particularly interested in catering to those nostalgic for the late 90s; afteradding a selection of Nintendo 64 titles to the Switch via the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, Nintendo is now offering a collection of four Nintendo 64-themed keychains. Meant to depict the rectangular boxes in which the games originally came packaged, fans can now carry with them replicas ofMario Kart 64, Star Fox 64, Super Mario 64, andThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timegame boxes, a perfect method to commemorate a console which sparked a lifetime gaming obsession for many.

Split into two packages, fans will have to accumulate a total of 1,000 Platinum Coins in order to secure the complete set of four. Though it might come across as relatively obtuse, the My Nintendo service uses two separate proprietary currencies in the form of Gold and Platinum Coins. Gold Coins seem to be more valuable, as they’re often earned by purchasing digital games through Nintendo’s virtual storefront. Platinum Coins, however, are usually earned by playing Nintendo mobile games, and, whileNintendo has pledged to cover shipping costs on orders of over fifty dollars, keychain aficionados are, in addition to fumbling with the odd currency exchange, out of luck in that regard.
In addition to the Nintendo 64 keychains, Nintendo has made available a few other products that may interest collectors. From a selection ofPokemon Legends: Arceuscable straps to a Mario-themed calendar, few would consider the offerings on Nintendo’s website to be must-havesakin to the eternally out-of-stock Kirby Amiibo, but they do seem to make for fun little bonuses intended for the Nintendo loyal.
As previously mentioned,Nintendo suddenly shuttered the availability of physical My Nintendo rewards in 2021, and there’s no way to tell if and when a second discontinuation may occur. As such, Nintendo fans looking to get their hands on these exclusive items may want to act quickly. On the contrary, this move might indicate a revival on Nintendo’s interest in physical rewards; though they haven’t been available in North America in quite some time, during the Club Nintendo days, unique items like exclusive physical games were once purchasable, and fans who took advantage of the service would almost certainly love to see something like this return.
