The Game Awards has once again delivered a show full of world premiere announcements for fans to enjoy. Among them comesa new rogue-litethat touts hand-drawn animation and a charming world for players to hack and slash away in. Of course, the game is going to be filled with challenges, as the genre practically invites players to die. True to the nature of the title, its developers have given it a rather fitting name -Have a Nice Death.
The new title is being developed by Magic Design Studios, who came out withUnruly Heroesback in 2019. Its publisher is Perfect World Entertainment, and the lead onDead Cellssits on the team as a consultant. The Game Awardsworld premiere trailer sees players go through what it’s like to run an office in the Underworld in the best way possible. Where fellow rogue-liteHadesfeatured Greek Mythology,Have a Nice Deathputs players in charge of processing souls and checking in on the many employees of Death Incorporated. Since people die on a routine basis, many of the creatures and monsters working under Death may be just as overworked as Death himself is, and be unruly. This is where players need to swing their scythe and cut them down to size before meeting the end of their run.
The trailer shown at the event makes the game look incredibly impressive, but fans might need to wait a bit more to have the game in their hands. So far, the game is only confirmed for a PC release on Steam, with other consoles to be announced at a later date. The game is going to be available for $14.99 on Early Access in March 2022, withSteam Deck support.
Have a Nice Deathlooks to be a rather inspired rogue-lite and offers an interesting take on the formula in the sense of using Death’s inability to die to fuel the mechanic. The game also seems to be carrying a sort of “tongue in cheek” humor style with it, which will entertain and get a few laughs out of many fans once the game is launched. For fans of the genre, this may be a game many of them might want to keep their eyes on.
That said, the lack of other console support forHave a Nice Deathso far may turn away a fair few players. Similar games such asDevolver’sEnter the Gungeonhave seen plenty of success on consoles, yet most titles that follow the same timeframeHave a Nice Deathis taking tend to take a year or more to reach other audiences. However, that may be the advantage for those wanting to play on console, as they’ll get to find out from other players ofHave a Nice Deathreally lives up to its promises.
Have a Nice Deathreleases on Steam Early Access in March 2022.
