Summary

A long-time insider has claimed that neither Microsoft nor its subsidiaries are currently working on a PlayStation 5 port forStarfield. The news comes after previous rumors thatStarfieldmay come to PS5 following Xbox’s new cross-platform strategy with certain exclusives.

In February, multiple insiders claimed thatStarfieldwould join other Xbox exclusives, likeHi-Fi RushandSea of Thieves, in jumping to PlayStation 5 in the near future. While the speculation surrounding the latter two games turned out to be true, Xbox’s Phil Spencer stated that Bethesda’sStarfieldandIndiana Jones and the Great Circlewould not join the other exclusives in going multi-platform. The sameinsiders have since walked theirStarfieldclaims back, saying that it was nothing more than an incorrect rumor. While some fans are still hoping for the rumor of aStarfieldport to be true and just in its early stages, another insider seems to have supported its inaccuracy.

“I have great sourcing that nobody is working onStarfieldfor PlayStation right now,” said established insider Jez Corden, “Nobody knows what the longer-term future holds, but don’t expect it any time soon.” While Corden left the possibility open thatStarfieldcould go multi-platform sometime off in the future, he stated that Xbox has no plans to bring the game to PS5 anytime soon. Some may have already expected this to be the case afterStarfielddidn’t joinPentiment,Grounded,Hi-Fi Rush, andSea of Thievesin being announced for multi-platform releases. However, if true, this claim combined with Spencer’s previous comments would solidify the possibility thatStarfieldwill remain an Xbox and PC exclusive for the foreseeable future.

Is Starfield Coming to PlayStation?

PlayStation fans can still look forward to the release of other Xbox exclusives on Sony’s platform, likeHi-Fi Rushon March 19,Groundedon April 16,Sea of Thieveson April 30, andPentiment, which is already available. It’s still unclear when or if another wave of Xbox exclusives going multi-platform could be announced, but it probably won’t be anytime in the immediate future.

Other majorXbox exclusives likeGears of WarjoinedStarfieldin being rumored for a multi-platform release. This rumor is also entirely unconfirmed and could meet the same fate as theStarfieldspeculation. But it’s certainly not out of the question, especially after Spencer commented on the concept of console exclusivity by saying that it will die out in the coming years.

Recently,Gears of Warcreator CliffyB shared his thoughtson Xbox’s new strategy. He believes that it’s ultimately a good thing, as more fans being exposed to a franchise will only help it grow. Xbox’s Spencer previously explained that the company is hoping for a similar effect when releasing games likeSea of Thievesfor PlayStation and Switch.
