The Fat Man is one ofFallout 4’s more fun if impractical weapons. Very loosely inspired by the real-world Davy Crockett nuclear recoilless rifle, The Fat Man atomic catapult deals 450 points of damage in a wide area, and only the Minutemen artillery barrages match it in sheer destructive potential. However,Fallout 4’s Fat Man also has limitations and can be just as deadly to the user if players aren’t careful.
Another of those limitations is ammo, with Mini Nukes being one of the rarest ammo types inFallout 4. Very few merchants sell them, and they don’t usually appear in random loot. Apart from looting the occasional Super Mutant Suicider,Fallout 4players will find most Mini Nukesin fixed locations scattered around the Commonwealth. However, some of these can prove quite tricky to find, including one that almost seems like Bethesda designed it to be easily missed. ManyFallout 4guides forget to mention it at all.

The Cambridge Police Station Mini Nuke
The Cambridge Police Station plays an important role in the story, most likely being the player’s first encounter withFallout 4’s version of The Brotherhood of Steel. It’s located on the road between Concord and Diamond City, and even if players stray far from the path, they will likely be pulled in by Scribe Haylen’s distress signal. Players literally need to go out of their way to avoid interacting with the Cambridge Police Station in the first act ofFallout 4. Since players can fully explore the Police Station, it might be surprising that a valuable item like a Mini Nuke could be so easily overlooked.
This is possible because the Mini Nuke isn’t there when most players visit for the first time, nor is it there the second or potentially even third time. When players arrive at the Police Station, they will find the small Brotherhood of Steel contingent under assault by a horde ofFallout 4’s Feral Ghouls. This is where they meet Paladin Danse, who asks for help recovering a piece of pre-war radio equipment from ArcJet Systems. If they agree, the quest ends with Danse giving the Sole Survivor his unique laser rifle and offering to let them join the Brotherhood of Steel.
However, the Mini Nuke doesn’t appear until the second act ofFallout 4’s story. Upon leaving Fort Hagen near the end of the “Reunions” quest, players are greeted with the sight of the Brotherhood airship Prydwen arriving in The Commonwealth escorted by a small fleet of Vertibirds. Paladin Danse then sends out a radio message recalling all local Brotherhood of Steel personnel back to the Cambridge Police Station. This begins the quest Shadow of Steel.
Upon arriving at the Police Station, players accompany Paladin Danse to seeThe Brotherhood of Steel’s Elder Maxsonaboard the Prydwen. Instead of walking, the Sole Survivor flies there aboard a Brotherhood Vertibird that landed on the roof. While getting on the Vertibird, players should take note of the metal crates. The Mini Nuke spawns on top of a stack of metal crates on the western side of the helipad, but only once players have completed Shadow of Steel by talking to Elder Maxson on the Prydwen. Players can then return to the Cambridge Police Station and collect the Mini Nuke.
It’s not surprising that so many players miss this Mini Nuke. The item isn’t there the only time the game asks them to go to the roof, andFallout 4’s Brotherhood of Steel storylinemoves on from the Police Station after that. A single Mini Nuke probably isn’t going to make or break anyone’s playthrough ofFallout 4, but they are rare enough that the player will want to keep their eyes out for them. In this case, Bethesda hid a powerful weapon in plain sight.
Fallout 4is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
