There are very few anime series that have achieved the level of success thatOne Piecehas, and the series has managed to also produce some decent movies. The series is set in a world where people can obtain supernatural powers by eating Devil Fruits, and each fruit comes with its own unique power. Akainu is the current fleet admiral of the Marines, and he ate the Magma-Magma Fruit—a Logia fruit that gives him the ability to create, manipulate, and transform into magma at will.
Magma is an incredibly hot and destructive liquid, which means that it is a dangerous and lethal power for anyone to have, especially someone like Akainu who is known for being ruthless. With that said, there are actually quite a fewDevil Fruit abilities that can counter Akainuin some way.

Updated on August 06, 2025, by George Voutiritsas:Akainu first appeared during the Summit War at Marineford, and, during the time skip, was promoted to the rank of Fleet Admiral. He possesses a powerful Devil Fruit and is extremely proficient with Armament Haki, which explains why he is considered to be one of the strongest characters in all ofOne Piece. His ability to control magma is actually quite terrifying, as very few things can withstand the extreme heat that his Fruit produces. Few people can defeat Akainu and his power, but there are luckily several Devil Fruits that can stand up to him.
20Jozu’s Sparkle-Sparkle Fruit
Jozu was the commander of the 3rd division of the Whitebeard Pirates, and he ate a Devil Fruit which grants him a virtually unbreakable defense. The Sparkle-Sparkle Fruit is a Paramecia-type Fruit that allows Jozu to transform any part of his body into diamond.
Dracule Mihawk is the world’s greatest swordsman, and Jozu was able to block his strongest attack without suffering a single scratch. The melting point of a diamond is about 7,280° Fahrenheit, and magma burns at roughly 2,200° Fahrenheit, which means that Akainu’s magma would not be able to damage Jozu’s body.

19Bartolomeo’s Barrier-Barrier Fruit
Bartolomeo is Luffy’s biggest fan, and he has a great defensive Devil Fruit. Thanks tothe Barrier-Barrier Fruit, he can create barriers by crossing his fingers. These barriers are said to be indestructible. They cannot be damaged by powerful physical attacks, so Akainu’s magma punches should have no effect, and any magma blast should simply slide off the barriers.
Bartolomeo can also turn his barriers into weapons. He can throw them at his enemy, or he can crush them between two barriers. Theoretically, he could squish Akainu’s Logia body between two barriers and keep him trapped for a good amount of time.

18Sengoku’s Human-Human Fruit, Model: Buddha
Sengoku is the former Fleet Admiral of the Marines, which means that he is one of the strongest characters inOne Piece. He ate a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit known as the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Buddha, which allows him to transform into a giant golden Buddha. He can also assume a Human-Buddha hybrid form.
While in his Buddha form, his body should be durable enough to withstand Akainu’s magma. Sengoku can also produce powerful golden shockwaves that were able to send Blackbeard’s Commanders flying. These shockwaves are just as strong as the Tremor-Tremor Fruit’s shockwaves, which dealt serious damage to Akainu’s body during the Summit War.

17Doflamingo’s String-String Fruit
Doflamingo was the main villain of the Dressrosa Arc, and he was the firstOne Piececharacter to useDevil Fruit Awakeningin battle. He ate the String-String Fruit, a Paramecia which gives him the ability to create and manipulate string. These strings are razor-sharp and extremely durable.
Thanks to his Awakening, Doflamingo can turn all non-living things around him into string. Under normal circumstances, these strings cannot harm Akainu, but Doflamingo can imbue his Awakened strings with Armament Haki which naturally counters Logia users. These Haki-infused strings should also be able to block Akainu’s magma.

16Brûlée’s Mirror-Mirror Fruit
Charlotte Brûlée is Big Mom’s 19th child, and she became a Mirror Human when she ate the Mirror-Mirror Fruit. This is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows Brûlée to create mirrors with her hands, and she can use them as portals. It also gives her access to her own separate mirror dimension.
What makes these mirrors especially useful, is the fact that they can absorb and reflect enemy attacks. If Akainu uses ranged attacks, she’ll absorb them, and if he attacks her directly, she can trap him inside her mirror dimension. It is fair to say that this is one ofthe most underrated Devil Fruit powers inOne Piece.

15Kuma’s Paw-Paw Fruit
Bartholomew Kuma is a former Warlord of the Sea, as well as the former King of the Sorbet Kingdom. He ate a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit known as the Paw-Paw Fruit, which gives him a pair of paw pads on the palms of his hands.
This may not sound like a strong ability, but these paws can repel anything they come into contact with. Kuma himself stated that he can repel objects at the speed of light. If Akainu tries to hit Kuma with a magma punch, he can simply repel Akainu and send him flying to another island. If Akainu tries ranged attacks, Kuma’s paws should be able to repel them as well.

14Kizaru’s Glint-Glint Fruit
There are only three Admirals at any given time, and so far, each Admiral has been extremely powerful.Admiral Kizaru first appeared in theSabaody ArchipelagoArc, and he used his Glint-Glint Fruit to defeat several members of the Worst Generation with ease.
This Logia-type Devil Fruit allows Kizaru to create, control, and transform into light. He can use this power to blind his enemies and fire laser beams. It also gives the user the ability to move at the speed of light, which means that Akainu will never be able to hit him with a ranged or melee attack.

13Enel’s Rumble Rumble Fruit
Enel has not appeared since the Skypeia Arc, where he defeated most of his enemies without breaking a sweat. He ate the Rumble-Rumble Fruit, a Logia-type that gives him the ability to create and transform into lightning. This power is said to be invincible, and it is capable ofdestroying an entire island.
A bolt of lightning can produce heat of up to 50,000° Fahrenheit, which is hotter than the surface of the sun, so it would be able to overpower magma which produces far less heat. This Fruit allows Enel to move at the speed of lightning, which is more than 200,000 mph, so, in theory, Enel would be able to dodge Akainu’s attacks with ease.

12Fujitora’s Press-Press Fruit
Fujitora became an Admiral during the time skip, and he revealed his Devil Fruit ability shortly after being introduced in the Dressrosa Arc. The Press-Press Fruit is a Paramecia-type which gives its user the ability to create and manipulate gravitational forces. It can move living things and objects with minimal difficulty, and it can even call meteors down from space.
If Fujitora were to fight Akainu, he could use his Devil Fruit to create a powerful gravitational force to press Akainu against the ground. Even if Akainu turned his entire body into magma, he would not be able to move or attack.

11Brook’s Revive-Revive Fruit
There is a lot of sword fighting inOne Piece, which is whyGhost of Tsushimafans might like it, and Brook is one of the more talented swordsmen in the series. Brook looks like a skeleton because he is one, and this happened because it took his soul a very long time to find his body.
This is all thanks to the power of the Revive-Revive Fruit, which enhances the user’s soul and allows them to resurrect themselves. The user can only revive once, however. Akainu aims to kill with his Devil Fruit, and there is no better way to counter this than by reversing death.
