WithOverwatch 2marching ahead towards its early access release later this year, Blizzard has shared plenty of juicy details about the highly-anticipated sequel. Previous reveals have shown offthe newest character in Junker Queenas well as several changes to the game’s progression system with the removal of loot boxes and player levels. A recent AMA held on the Games subreddit has given fans a chance to get plenty of new information about the upcoming sequel from new gameplay tweaks to potential new characters.

The “Ask Me Anything” thread withOverwatch 2’s dev team has provided a more in-depth look at what to expect from the sequel.Overwatch 2developers have discussed a wide variety of topics throughout the session, including future plans for maps from the first game’s “Assault” mode and plans for existing players' loot boxes.Overwatch 2made waves when Blizzard confirmed the sequel would be shedding loot boxes in favor of a battle pass system. Now, one fan’s question about a fan-favorite group from theOverwatchuniverse may hint at future characters forOverwatch 2.

During the AMA thread, one fan with the handle Simp4Dmon asked theOverwatch 2team if there were plans to include more of D.Va’s teammates from the MEKA Squad. A response fromOverwatch 2’s Senior Hero Designer, Blizz_JNoh, revealed that while there are currently no official plans, they personally would love to include more MEKA Squad members.D.Va is currently the only memberof the South Korea-based unit included in the game with the asker’s name likely referencing another member of the team, D.Mon.

While JNoh couldn’t confirm anything about a potential future MEKA Squad member joining the game,Overwatch’s characters were a big focus for many fans throughout the AMA. A previous response from one ofOverwatch 2’s developers discussed upcoming changes for Symmetra with plans to adjust the character to better suit the game’s 5v5 scenario. Another dev also confirmed the upcoming PvP beta will featureall of the redesigned Heroesafter some of the new looks were missing from the April beta period.

Previous reveals from Blizzard have shown thatOverwatch 2will come as a full-on replacement for the originalOverwatch.Another developer responseduring the thread suggested thatOverwatch 2will be removing filesfrom the original game, acting more like a major update than a separate sequel. Previous beta tests have also confirmed the sequel will be retaining the original game’s controversial “role queue”. TheOverwatch 2AMA has given fans plenty of insight into the upcoming sequel as the game’s October release date approaches.

Overwatch 2is in development with Early Access coming on October 4th, 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
