When theOverwatch 2PvE campaign releases, fans can expect to see two villains at the center of the narrative. Based on the final Storm Rising cinematic,Overwatch 2’s new Tank hero Ramattra and Talon’s leader Doomfist have struck an alliance, so both can be expected to take on a prevalent role in the story. While fans are waiting to learn more about Null Sector’s determined leader, they already know a fair bit about Doomfist, and Marvel fans have been quick to point out some similarities to the comic brand’s characters.

WithRamattra being so similar to Magneto, it is oddly appropriate that Doomfist also has a comic book counterpart. However, he does not have a perfect match like Ramattra, as he borrows traits from two hugely different Marvel characters. By taking in Doomfist’s lore and looking at his weapon of choice, he quickly starts to feel like a merger between Wakanda’s protector Black Panther and The Mad Titan Thanos.

Doomfist’s Similarity To Black Panther

WhileBlack Pantheris usually depicted as a hero, which may initially make a comparison to Doomfist seem odd, both characters are assuming a mantle. Though King T’challa is the most iconic Black Panther, he is not the only one to don a costume and protect his people. Similarly, the current Doomfist Akande Ogundimu is the latest in a line of Doomfists. Much like how the various Black Panthers have had different approaches to how they rule their people, the wielders of Doomfist’s gauntlet have had different impacts on society.

When exploringtheOverwatch 2map Numbani, players can see banners depicting the three iterations of Doomfist. Intriguingly, one of them was a hero, with The Savior Adhabu Ngumi protecting his people in Africa during the Omnic Crisis. Unfortunately, his successor Akinjide Adeyemi became known as The Scourge, carrying out raids on Numbani with the help of Talon and serving as a Warlord. He was then betrayed and murdered by the current Doomfist, who was Talon’s preferred choice for the role since he was smarter and had grander plans.

Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet

Doomfist’s Similarities To Thanos

While theDoomfist gauntletis passed from person to person just like the role of Black Panther, the gauntlet itself is unsurprisingly pointed to first when comparing Doomfist to Thanos. With both being some of the biggest villains in their respective franchises, the fact that they each use a large gold gauntlet to inflict damage is interesting. The presence of Doomfist’s gauntlet in the museum fromOverwatch’s Cinematic Trailer shows that it is an iconic and powerful item in-universe, too, much like the Infinity Gauntlet.

However, share traits between Doomfist andThanosgo beyond their roles as villains and their choice of weaponry. When comparing Doomfist to the MCU version of Thanos specifically, as his motives differ from the comic version, their goals start to line up. Ultimately, both want to make the world a better place through terrible acts. Thanos seeks balance through population control, while Doomfist commits acts of terrorism to spark conflicts, as he believes war will bring people together and make everyone stronger in the long run.

Obviously, there is more to Doomfist than his similarities to a Marvel hero and villain, even if they are fun to point out. He shines inTalonmeetings just as much as he does on the battlefield, he grew up with a love for martial arts, and his upper class upbringing gives him a unique personality. Doomfist’s various terrorist attacks and the murder of his mentor make his cruelty clear, and it will be interesting to see where his story goes next.

Overwatch 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
