Overwatchconsiders Tanks to be the ones capable of disrupting enemy plays while at the same time providing support to teammates.Tank characterscan soak up massive amounts of damage and perform crowd-control at the same time.
It’s for these reasons that some veteranOverwatchplayers believe that the game should have relegated the character Mei to this role back when it first released. But now that both the Role Queue rule and Hero Pool system exist, oneOverwatchplayer believes it’s time for the devs to try something new with Mei.

What Redditor BoisterousBiddy suggests is an experimental game mode that treatsMeilike a Tank character, as she already has all of the abilities a Tank usually does. For example, she can heal herself, erect shield-like walls, and perform efficient crowd control. The only thing she’s missing is an armored health pool and a bigger hitbox, so as it currently stands, playing against a team using Mei feels like playing against three Tanks instead of two.
To give some context to this: theRole Queuerule forces teams to comprise themselves of no more than two character classes at a time. This means that anOverwatchteam can only consist of two Supports, two Damage-dealers, and two Tanks — no more, no less. Mei somewhat breaks this rule though because of her playstyle, and so she gives the enemy team something of an unfair advantage.
Her situation has gotten so bad that some fans have even suggested using theHero Pool systemto remove her permanently. But since that abuses the Pool system, it was decided against. For those unfamiliar with how Hero Pool works, it bans the most played characters of the past week for a week.
That said, if the devs were to go through with the idea of turning Mei into a Tank, it probably wouldn’t do so in this game. The developer would likely wait forOverwatch 2instead since redeveloping Mei would take time and resources. In the meantime, Mei did receive some nerfs to her Endothermic Freeze Blaster and her Blizzard Ultimate, so the developer will likely wait to see how the new changes affect her gameplay before doing anything more.
Overwatchis available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
