It’s the beginning of a new month, and the PlayStation Store has already revealed its top selling games for July. This time around,Ghost of Tsushimadominated the charts, several franchise titles continued their stay, and a few smaller titles got a chance to shine.
The fact thatGhost Tsushimaclaimed the top spot in both the U.S. and E.U. markets is likely to surprise no one. Sucker Punch’s historical open-world epic released in the middle of the month to rave reviews from critics and fans. Additionally,Ghost of Tsushimashattered sales records, moving more than 2.4 million copies around the world in the three days after it dropped. While it’s already been more than three weeks sinceGhost of Tsushimareleased,fans are still finding new things to do.

WhileGhost of Tsushimatopped the chart, several PlayStation Store mainstays held onto their spots.Minecraftwas the second-most downloaded game in July, followed byGrand Theft Auto 5andCall of Duty: Modern Warfare. Despite releasing at the end of the last generation of consoles,Grand theft Auto 5has managed to compete with the latest games and is still immensely popular on the PlayStation Store. Publisher Take-Two Interactive recently made a deal with theEpic Games Store to sell a record number of copiesof the game in the last quarter.
Meanwhile,The Last of Us 2, which dominated the chartsin June, was bumped down to the fifth spot in July. Despite time and controversies surrounding the game’s ending,The Last of Us 2is still going strong.
EA Sports games have always been popular on the PlayStation charts, and July was no exception.Madden NFL 20came in at 11, EA SportsFIFAcame in at 13, andMLB The Show 20came in at 20. It’s probable that fans are quenching their excitement for the next Madden game, whichrecently revealed a new game modeand X-Factor abilities, by revisiting the last franchise’s last installment.
While The PlayStation charts are typically filled with franchise blockbusters and sports titles, smaller games are still able to shine every now and then. This month it wasThe Forest, a survival-horror game developed by Endnight Games that officially relapsed in 2019 after years in early access.
When it comes to VR games,Marvel’s Iron Man VRtook the top spot after the gamereceived generally positive reviews.
