Summary

Following the launch of The Teal Mask DLC, aPokemon Scarlet and Violetfan designed 14 new masks for Ogerpon and shared their work on social media for other trainers to see. Though Ogerpon has masks representing the types of Grass, Fire, Water, and Rock, thePokemon Scarlet and Violetartist designed more masks for the remaining types.

Known as the Mask Pokemon, Ogerpon is a Legendary Pokemon that is the mascot of The Teal Mask, the first part of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC forPokemon Scarlet and Violet. As a Grass-type Pokemon,Ogerpon can don four masksinPokemon Scarlet and Violet, including the titular Teal Mask, to enhance her battle capabilities. By donning the Hearthflame, Wellspring, and Cornerstone Masks, Ogerpon will respectively gain the Fire, Water, and Rock types as a secondary type to complement the initial Grass type. The masks also change Ogerpon’s Tera type, and the type of her signature move Ivy Cudgel, to match it. Though Ogerpon’s masks bear unique designs, one player decided to make more masks for Ogerpon to don.

Withfan art of Ogerponshowing no signs of slowing down, a Redditor named primaljort posted 14 different Ogerpon mask designs on thePokemonsubreddit. With each mask design, Ogerpon held the mask in her right hand, and her sleeves changed color to match the mask she held. Each outstanding type’s mask had features such as large eyes, two sharp teeth, a long nose, a tongue hanging out of the mouth, or some expression meant to surprise or intimidate Ogerpon’s foes. While none of the masks were given elaborate titles or abilities, the OP matched each mask with the types that Ogerpon would have if they were actually inPokemon Scarlet and Violet.

As for the masks, somePokemonfans pointed out that the Flying-type mask looked inspired by a tengu, a crow-like demon from Japanese mythology, despite the OP’s claims of taking inspiration from a pigeon. Other users stated that the Fighting-type mask was reminiscent of a Thwomp from theSuper Marioseries and that the Bug-type mask was taken straight out oftheKamen Riderseries. Though the OP blamed burnout on not naming each individual mask, they thanked eachPokemonfan who commented on the post.

WhileThe Teal Mask can be beaten in a short time, the fact that Ogerpon has become aPokemonfan-favorite in such a short span is a testament to her design. With The Indigo Disk DLC right around the corner, it remains to be seen whatPokemonfan artists will do next.
