APokemonfan has created a new and exciting concept art design for thePokemoncalled Cherubi. The art was posted on Reddit, with just a few weeks to go until the release of the ninth generation of Pokemon main series games.
The Cherry Pokemon called Cherubi first appeared inPokemon Diamond and Pearlfor the Nintendo DS in 2007. As one ofthe Sinnoh region’s many Grass-type Pokemon, Cherubi is uncommonly found in most routes through the world map. However, the method for encountering it does not involve wading through tall grass. Starting with the fourth generation ofPokemongames, players can slather some Honey on specific trees and return to the tree a few hours later to see if any Pokemon such as Cherubi took the sweet bait. However, the Cherry Pokemon has an encounter rate ranging from 7.5% to up to 15% on specific trees, so a little luck may be required to find Cherubi, let alone catch it. Cherubi evolves into Cherrim when it reaches level 25 and has two appearances depending on the weather in the game.

In a piece of art made and posted by a Redditor called JhayAlejo, a new concept gave Cherubi a split evolution. However, the conceptual evolution is different from Cherrim as a whole. JhayAlejo’s evolution art shows Cherubi going through two evolutions, not just one. In the first conceptual phase, the artist showed Cherubi growing out with a long body and wing-like leaves, as well as sprouting an additional cherry-shaped head. In the final evolution, the Pokemon’s body becomes surrounded by angelic wings suffused with light, likely giving offelectric-type energy from the wingsthat surround it.
No names or types were given for the Pokemon concepts. But in the comments of the Reddit post, users made plenty of comparisons for the final evolution concept. Some comments referencedSephiroth fromFinal Fantasy 7, known as the “One-Winged Angel” for both his appearance in mostFinal Fantasy 7media and the iconic final boss theme of the same name. As a result, names such as “Cherroth” and “Cherruphim” appeared in the comments section of the post, which had over 250 comments and over 12.5k upvotes and counting in just two days.
Other comments have dubbed the Cherubi evolution asa biblically-accurate angel Pokemon, with each face giving off a different expression on the sides of the design. With Halloween and Day of the Dead happening this week in the real world, it seems timely that Pokemon fan designs draw upon terrifying or inspiring sources for art as the wait forPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s release continues.
