Summary

One talentedPokemonfan artist designed a seriously cool past Paradox Mawile. When it comes toPokemonfan art, giving creatures new evolutions, changing types, and creating new Mega or Paradox forms are common practices. ManyPokemongimmicks from generation to generation involve imagining familiar creatures in unfamiliar ways. Mega evolutions and Paradox forms, for example, are essentially variants of new and known Pokemon. Many talented artists follow suit by creating their own unique designs.

Paradox Pokemon is one of the ninth generation’s main gimmicks. BothPokemon Scarlet and Violethave their own exclusive Paradox forms.Scarlet’s Paradox Pokemon are all from the past, whileViolet’sare futuristic. Again, creating a new Paradox form is a common genre for fan art, but the Pokemon itself is not so widely used. Starter and Legendary Pokemon are typical subjects, but one artist decided to go with a more underrated third-generation pocket monster.

Reddit user OzoneFruit designed an impressive past Paradox form of the Gen 3 Pokemon Mawile. The piece is part of a series OzoneFruit is doing called “Faketober” in which the artist shares a new design every day. Earlier this month, thePokemonfan designed a future Paradox Mantine. The artist also featured popular Pokemon such as Ambipom, Spiritomb, and Eevee in their works.

While Mawile is normally a Steel and Fairy-type Pokemon, the fan-designed Dreadful Jaw is a Steel and Dragon-type. The jaws on the back of Mawile’s head are reimagined as a dragon inspired byPokemon Sword and ShieldLegendary Regidrago. OzoneFruit even went as far as to create a Pokedex entry for the Pokemon which they shared in the comments. According to the artist, Dreadful Jaw does resemble Mawile, but its horns are “tens of thousands of times more powerful.”

While not the first Pokemon most fans would think of, Mawile (especially its Mega evolution) easily stands as one of themost powerful Steel-types in the series. With its unique design and lore, it is also considered by some to be an underrated pocket monster.

One of the amazing things aboutPokemonfan art is that it can often showcase more underappreciated creatures like Mawile. Many fans love an epic Mewtwo or Charizard variant, but there is something about shining a light on an underrepresented Pokemon that can really get fans to appreciate the creature in a new way. With millions of fans around the world, the reality is that each Pokemon is likely to be someone’s favorite. And this is likely to pique the interest of anyone who already has a soft spot for Mawile.
