For Pokemon Day, The Pokemon Company hosted a small Pokemon Presents presentation to reveal news regardingPokemon Cafe ReMix,Unite, and more. Among them was the reveal for the ninth generation of mainline games,Pokemon ScarletandPokemon Violet. Just like the other announcements before it, fans also got a look at the new starters, and some are concerned about what directionthe grass-type Pokemonwill take when it evolves.Since thePokemonseries has always featured the evolution of its creatures as a staple of its formula, how the new starters will evolve is always a hot topic. Some fans theorize on the evolutions right away, considering they can be drastically different from how the first form tends to look. It’s understandable that some may have reservations regarding the starters inPokemon ScarletandViolet, as some have felt betrayed by the ending evolution of their partners.RELATED:Pokemon Presents Was Under-Marketed Due to Ukraine ConflictThe grass-type starter inPokemon SVis Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokemon. Just like the other two starters, Quaxly and Fuecoco, Sprigatito has earned the love of many fans already following its reveal. However, those who have already chosen the cat-based Pokemon have made arequest to Game Freak, and that request is that Sprigatito doesn’t stand on two legs upon completely evolving.
While it may seem like a strange request to make, starters evolving to stand on their hind legs is actually a more common trait than fire-fighting-types among the creatures, which was another gripe fans hadin regard to LittenofPokemon SunandMoon. While Litten ended up being fire-dark-type in the end, it evolved into Incineroar, which resulted in the cat standing on two feet at the end of the evolutionary line. Fans are hoping Sprigatito won’t have the same result afterward.
Other fans have taken note that the regionseen inPokemon ScarletandVioletseems to be based on Spain in particular, and some fans who are from Spain may have figured out what Sprigatito is meant to represent. The country of Spain has recently saved one of its native wild cats, a species of lynx, from near extinction. There’s a chance that this new grass-type starter is based on that very same lynx, and if that’s the case, the cat will most likely remain on all fours upon evolution.
Of course, fans won’t know for sure how any of theScarletandVioletstarters evolve for a rather long time, considering the game was only just revealed. Curious players will need to wait for more updates, and starter evolutions are always some of the last things to be revealed with aPokemongame, if not left for when the game fully releases. For the fans Sprigatito has already, there may be a long wait until they can see what the cat becomes in the end.
