Pokemon GOis throwing a special event to celebrate April Fools' Day 2022, and it’s having some unintended positive side effects for certain players. The event has unleashed a horde of Ditto, the pink shapeshifting Pokemon, onto the game world–an act that could annoy players searching for non-Ditto Pokemon. However,Pokemon GOplayers who were stuck on one part of the Let’s GO, Meltan quest are rejoicing at the flood of Ditto.

Back in 2018, theMythical Pokemon Meltan made its first appearanceinPokemon GO. This made it one of the few Pokemon that were introduced in a non-mainline title. Although Meltan can’t normally be encountered on the overworld, interested players can still follow the Let’s GO, Meltan Special Research to encounter and catch Meltan.

One of the nine steps of the Let’s GO, Meltan Special Research is to catch a Ditto due toits similarity to Meltan. Redditor Jaybae57 shared a post explaining that the April Fools' Day 2022 event finally allowed them to complete this step. In the post, they shared a screenshot of the step in question combined with a meme of Pepper Potts telling Tony Stark, “you may rest now,” in the movieAvengers: Endgame. Accompanying text announced that it took Jaybae57 way too long to find a Ditto.

Sometimes, past and currentPokemon GOevents will require players to capture the same Pokemon to proceed. This synergy is generally an easy and convenient way to progress in the game. However, there’s no guarantee that multiple Special Research or Research Tasks will continue to line up, especially when a time-limited event is involved. One thing is certain, however–the2022 April Fools' Day eventis a great time to clear out any quests that require players to capture Ditto because there are a ton of them wandering around.

As of writing, it appears that otherPokemon GOplayers are mostly sympathetic to Jaybae57’s struggle. Several users shared their own stories ofstruggling to catch Ditto–or even multiple Dittos–for quests. One user stated that they’d been stuck on this step and a similar Ditto quest for A Mythical Discovery, the Special Research Task that allows gamers to capture Mew. Several more users warned Jaybae57 about an upcoming step in the Let’s GO, Meltan quest that would require them to catch an Aerodactyl, a Pokemon that is notoriously difficult to encounter in the wild. In the end, it appears that the April Fools' Day event came at just the right time for some gamers.
