Pokemon GOwill celebrate its five-year anniversary next month. As the anniversary approaches,Pokemon GOhas announced that it will be updating how the game’s popular raids work.
Raids inPokemon GOare group activities that see high-level players taking on gigantic versions of some of the most powerful Pokemon. Raids require players to use passes to join while also only being available at very specific times and locations. What Pokemon players can get from the raids rotates, with players usually being able to get more rare or legendary Pokemon likeRegigigas for theirPokemon GOcollection.

The new update will see raids working quite a bit differently from how trainers are used to. In a new blog post,Pokemon GOdeveloper Niantic detailed what new features players can expect to come to raids as part ofPokemon GO’s anniversary celebrations. The biggest new addition is the new Trainer Achievements system. Aiming to highlight the contribution of all players in the raid, Trainer Achievements are will be awarded to players at the end of raids for things like using the final attack, dealing the most damage, keeping one Pokemon in the battle the longest, and other goals as well. Each achievement also has a medal associated with it that can be upgraded and shown off on a player’s profile.
Other updates coming to raids are a round of updates to the art and UX elements players see during raids. The stadium that raid battles take place in will be receiving a makeover, so players will have an entirely new environment to battlePokemon GO’s biggest Pokemon in. The blog post also says that the update will also bring a handful of quality-of-life updates as well, but it does not provide any details on what they will be. The announcement of the changes comes after many players havevoiced their frustration withPokemon GOremoving the features added to the game to assist them during the pandemic.
It is great to see Niantic continue to supportPokemon GOand work towards improving it for all of its players. The community has voiced a number of complaints and frustrations with the game recently, but hopefully, Niantic will be able to make the changes thatPokemon GOplayers are calling for. Details forPokemon GO’s July Community Daywere also recently announced, so it seems that the game’s anniversary will be a great time for new and returning players to jump into the game.
