Summary
Carmine and Kieran may only be debuting inPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC chapters, but they could turn out to be more important than expected. WhilePokemon Scarlet and Violetalready told several stories over the course of its runtime, the DLC hints at further adventures for the ninth generation. Kitakami and Blueberry Academy are already looking promising in regards to what they can add to the game, being completely new areas for the player to explore. There is already a good possibility that Carmine and Kieran themselves could be equally significant additions toScarlet and Violet.
Similar to the last game’s DLC,Scarlet and Violet’s Hidden Treasure of Area Zerowill add a significant amount of content to the original game. Much like howSword and Shieldgains a short storyline from Isle of Armor and Dynamax Adventures from Crown Tundra,Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwill need to provide its own significant upgrades. Thankfully, what has been shown off already looks to give players a lot to look forward to for the DLC’s release. With new Pokemon, new locations, and even new Paradox Pokemon, the trailers have helped the DLC put its best foot forward. All it needs to do is deliver on its promise.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Carmine and Kieran Could Be the Stars of the DLC
Although not as heavily anticipated asPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC version exclusives, Carmine and Kieran could be two of the more impactful additions of the expansion. A brother and sister unseen inScarlet and Violet’s previous chapters, they seem set to play a prominent role in the upcoming expansions. As it turns out, Carmine and Kieran not only come from Kitakami, but they are also students at Blueberry Academy. This gives the siblings a connection to both sides of the expansion, which is further driven home by them appearing in promo art for Teal Mask as well as Indigo Disk.
The appearances of Carmine and Kieran mark a significant contrast to the way thatPokemon Sword and Shield’s DLChandled its new characters. Avery and Klara were introduced as new antagonists in Isle of Armor, but never appeared outside that DLC’s short storyline. Likewise, while Crown Tundra introduced father and daughter Peony and Peonia, their roles were ultimately minimal, with virtually no plot aside from their quickly established relationship. InSword and Shield, these characters were designed for specific DLC scenarios. Carmine and Kieran, on the other hand, will be present for all the Hidden Treasures of Area Zero.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwill need to take a different approach with Carmine and Kieran than past games. They will probably be important inPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC storyline, although that could potentially complicate matters. If players can play the expansions in any order they desire, then Carmine and Kieran’s story would need to make sense no matter which expansion comes first. Of course, having two expansions to develop them can give the duo a more interesting story than other characters inPokemon’s past. If handled well, this could be an opportunity forScarlet and Violet’s chapter of the series to end on a high note.
The roles of Carmine and Kieran will be interesting to watch whenPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is released. They couldraise expectations forPokemonGeneration 10if the developers can successfully give them a compelling storyline. Considering that they’ll be getting two expansions to work with rather than one, there is a real chance for them to be as well-developed as the supporting cast from the main game.Pokemon Scarlet and Violetcould have a pleasant surprise in store if its approach to Carmine and Kieran’s story across the expansions plays out well.
