A distribution event for one ofPokemon SwordandShield’s rarer items has been postponed indefinitely, along with the tournament to which it was tied. While the item can be obtained through other means by those with the games' Expansion Pass DLC, those without the DLC may have to wait until the promotion happens.
SincePokemon SwordandShield’srelease, some of the games' best giveaways have been tied to South Korea. For example, the only way to obtain a Charizard with the move Seismic Toss was to use a code distributed in South Korean theaters for the filmPokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back - Evolution. However, some South Korean distributions have been available worldwide. For example, a South Korean distribution in August yieldeda Shiny Amoonguss with fully maxed-out stats, and ended up being available for players worldwide for a short time. As it typically takes hours to optimize Pokemon for competitive play, it’s no wonder this made fans intrigued by future South Korean distributions.

The distribution event initially planned for this month would givePokemon SwordandShieldplayers a Galarica Wreath, which is an evolution item necessary to evolve Galarian Slowpoke into Galarian Slowking. The distribution was tied to South Korea’sPokemon SwordandShieldCrown Tournament, which appears to have been delayed due to a surge of COVID-19 cases in the country. While the item will eventually be distributed to fans, no specific date has been given at this time.
Anyone who can access theIsle of Armor and Crown Tundra DLC regionscan assemble a Galarica Wreath for themselves. Players will need to collect 15 Galarica Twigs, which can be found on the ground in both regions, and then speak to a lady in a cave within the Crown Tundra. If a Galarian Slowpoke holds the Galarica Wreath while being traded, it will evolve into Galarian Slowking. While it is not hard to find Galarica Twigs, collecting them is a tedious process. Plus, if players only have access to the base game, they won’t be able to collect Galarica Twigs at all.
To be fair, even players without access to the DLC regions have ways to obtain Galarian Slowking. As a start, the game provides one Galarian Slowpoke to all players through an event at Wedgehurst Station. From there, one can trade with other players, either within the games themselves or throughthe Pokemon Home companion app. As trading is a necessary part of evolving Galarian Slowking, opportunities to trade for it are probably easy to come across.
Unfortunately, those without the DLC may be competitively disadvantaged in ways unrelated to the Slowpoke evolutionary line. For example,Crown Tundra legendary Pokemon like Glastrierhave enormous competitive potential, and as these kinds of Pokemon can only be captured once, players will probably be unwilling to trade them away. In any case, players who want Galarian Slowking without the item-collection sidequest will have to wait a little longer.
