On July 19, Sony will be adding new PS Plus Extra and Premium titles to the line-up. This constant influx of games for the newPS Plustiers is a good thing, because not long after their addition, Sony will then reveal thePS Plus free games for August 2022(now known as the Essential tier). Sony is expected to announce these games on Wednesday, July 27, ahead of their release on July 10, 2025. While this announcement schedule has shifted a time or two, Sony’s last-Wednesday reveal and first-Tuesday release pattern has been one of its most consistent out of the past few years.
The exactPS Plusgames have never been predictable, meaning fans have mostly relied on reliable leaks and official announcements. Therefore, this wish list should not be read as a set of predictions, but as an estimation of titles that would do well on the service. A lot is still shifting for PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium, but a key component to each tier is delivering great titles.

PS Plus Free Games for August 2022 (Essential) – Saints Row: The Third Remastered
It’s no secret that the reboot ofSaints Rowlaunches next month on August 23, so if Sony were to add theSaints Row 3remaster on August 2, that’s plenty of time for fans to return to Steelport before adventuring into Santo Ileso. No doubt, the reboot is already going to draw comparisons (as it already has) at launch, so at least having one fresh on the mind would do well for fans. Indeed, it’ll be interesting to see how these comparisons go, as a whole new crew, city, and tone have been shown off byall theSaints Rowtrailersso far.
PS Plus Free Games for August 2022 (Essential) – Life is Strange 2
Life is Strangeis a beloved franchise, although one with a bumpy road. Its gameplay style has perhaps been ignored by many today, as thischoice-heavy narrative approachis often overwhelmed by more action-packed game, but it’s a style worth keeping around. The firstLife is Strangehas been offered on PS Plus before, soLife is Strange 2 should be up next. It’s kind of the forgotten middle sibling between the first game andTrue Colors, but for those looking for an emotional, brotherly story,Life is Strange 2is well worth a visit—especially if it’s free on PS Plus.
What sets this title apart from the other games is that the main character is not the one with powers, but the little brother. Sean is responsible for his little brother, Daniel, who is developing telekinetic powers as they flee from the police as fugitives. Sean has the burden of being a parent thrust onto him in a bad situation, and it’s really endearing to take a step back and see how thesepowers influence everyone inLife is Strange 2.
