Sony made a big splash with the reveal of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller, so much so that fans have beguncreating their own PS5 conceptsbased on the design. At the moment there’s no indication when the world will find out more about the next-generation console, but in the meantime Sony has apparently been going above and beyond the call of duty when facing the challenge of PlayStation 4 upkeep in the midst of a global pandemic.
Reddit user pnut88 posted an image to the r/PS4 subreddit Friday of a note he received from the PlayStation Service Team after a $164 repair on theirGod of WareditionPS4that had a 10-day turn around instead took four weeks due to the “unprecedented and difficult times” of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Included with the console was a new copy ofMLB The Show 20as a “token of our appreciation for your patronage.”

While pnut88 said they will likely get a PS5 on launch day, they said they try to keep the special edition console in mint condition so they can pass it along to their children — especially after introducing them to games likeMedia Molecule’sDreams, which they say “has the potential to show kids the possibilities of what your imagination can create.” They say they own over 500 games on the system digitally, having linked their PS4 with a close friend.
Because of their digital preference and a general disinterest in sports games, pnut88 said they triedMLB the Show 20out only a little before deciding to pass the good gesture forward to someone who would make better use of it. They struck a deal with Reddit user CaptainBlackhill, who said it will “definitely be something for my wife and I to play while on lockdown.”
One of the nicest things about the PlayStation Service Team’s decision to include a free game with the repair is how new the game is.MLB the Show 20has only been out since March, and pnut88 said it happened to be the one Sony exclusive they didn’t already own. The baseball game has also been used for anonline charity tournamentbetween real-life MLB players.
This gesture in the middle of hard times is not only great for pnut88, but it also shows Sony’s goodwill toward its fans. That should serve them well once next-generation consoles come out, and at least one industry analyst believesPS5 and Xbox Series X showcasesmay be coming sooner than expected.
