One of the most consistent PlayStation franchises isRatchet & Clank, which has seen highly-rated new releases since its PS2 debut in 2002. Insomniac has been rumored to be working on a newRatchet & Clankgame for quite some time, and while it was previously believed that the game would be coming to PS4, a new rumor claims that it’s actually in development for the PlayStation 5. And not only that, but the newRatchet & Clankgame could very well end up being a PS5 launch title.
This information comes from Colin Moriarty on a recent episode of Sacred Symbols+, the premium version of his podcast that fans can access by donating to the Colin’s Last Stand Patreon page. In the podcast, Moriarty said, “We’re going to get aRatchet & Clankin-between [Spider-ManandSpider-Man 2] on PlayStation 5. I feel like that’s going to be a launch game.” Moriarty added that theRatchet & Clankgame has “long been in development” at Insomniac Games.

Indeed, this isn’t the first time that Moriarty has mentioned anewRatchet & Clankfrom Insomniac Games. Moriarty first mentioned the newRatchet & Clankgame last April, teasing that fans hadn’t seen the last ofRatchet & Clankon the PS4. However, it’s entirely possible that Sony has decided to skip the PS4 when it comes toRatchet & Clankand instead bring it to the PS5 to bolster the new console’s launch lineup.
ThePS4’s launch lineupwas notably weak, launching with exclusives that didn’t earn high marks many expect from first-party Sony games. Having aRatchet & Clankgame on PS5 at launch would be huge, as it’s one of PlayStation’s oldest franchises and has a proven track record of high quality game releases, especially when it comes to theRatchet & Clanktitles developed by Insomniac.
Having aRatchet & Clankgame as a PS5 launch title makes even more sense when one considersSony’s recent acquisition of Insomniac Games. With Insomniac now officially under the Sony umbrella, it seems like it having a title ready for the PS5’s launch seems like an even more distinct possibility.
Before fans get too excited about the possibility of playing a newRatchet & Clankgame on PS5, they should note that Moriarty only said that he “feels” like it will be a launch title, not that it being a launch title is something that’s set in stone. Ultimately, fans will just have to wait for therumored PS5 reveal eventto learn more.
