Rainbow Six Siegewill soon receive a brand-new operator.Azami is a Defender themed around Japanese private bodyguards, and many are happy that a new character will soon be joining the roster. However, while it is exciting to have a new operator, fans apparently could have had an operator named “Flubber” instead.

A new Operation inRainbow Six Siegeusually comes with a new operator. In this case, Operation Demon Veil is set to start very soon. It will add a new map to the game and a brand new TDM mode, along with Azami. According toRainbow Six Siege’s new Creative Director Alexander Karpazis, however, things could have been a bit different.

Why Flubber Never Made It Into Rainbow Six Siege

Recently, Alexander Karpazis talked with PCGamesN aboutOperation Demon Veil and Azami forRainbow Six Siege. The character took a long time to develop due to the complexity of her kit. Azami can patch holes with her gadget, including holes that players may have busted open. Azami and her patch-filling gadget could be game changing, and Ubisoft needed to alter the game’s sound engine to accommodate for it. Accoriding to Karpazis, Azami’s abilities came from two canceled operators, and their names were Patcher and Flubber.

The name Patcher seems self-explanatory, as the operator could repair breaches. Originally conceived five years ago, Patcher was too close to the operator Castle, who is already inRainbow Six Siege. Flubber, however, was more unique. Flubber had a gadget that would shoot out green ooze that could create a pile of goo. The goo could then be stacked to block off entrances, for example. This sounds very similar to Azami’s Kiba Barrier, which are kunai knives that create a hardened gas that have the ability to patch holes upon impact.

The Flubber name is also very interesting, but even if the character ended up coming toRainbow Six Siege, it may have been named something else. Still, it appears the idea of the character lives on with Azami, who fans will be able to start enjoying come May 29, 2025.

No one knows how Patcher or Flubber may have stacked up with thebest operators inRainbow Six Siege, but Azami may end up being an incredibly impactful operator. Her ability to close holes and block off entrances may alter the meta, after all. Azami’s barriers can be destroyed, but it will take an explosive or Sledge’s tactical breaching hammer to do the trick. Slowing down the enemy team’s game plan and forcing them to take alternate routes could be the difference between an exploded site and an area being properly defended. With Flubber and Patcher merging to become Azami, the character should have plenty of depth.
