One of the beautiful things about gaming is the talent that goes into keeping beloved franchises going, with customized versions and modifications that take things in new directions. With the likes ofShadow Mancurrently being remade in the Unreal Engine, gamers are living in a golden age of new content that’s being put out there by dedicated and talented fans. Now, someone is using the Unreal Engine to bring the originalResident Evilgame into the modern era.
In a video posted on YouTube a few days ago, footage was revealed that showcased some recognizable elements from the firstResident Evilgame, which has been recreated using Unreal Engine 4. The six-minute clip shows a part of the game’s Spencer Mansion where much of the story takes place, with the player moving slowly through the map in an attempt to show off some of the remake’s more interesting details.

What’s perhaps the most interesting aspect of this is the game’s perspective. Whereas the originalREgame, as well as the official remake made in 2002, had a third-person perspective, this new iteration has chosen to use first-person. While there is no specific reason given as to why they’ve chosen this, and it could divide the fan base, it could be down to 2017’sResident Evil:BioHazardalso being in first-person viewand the developer of this remake may be looking to emulate that style.
The video also contains a couple ofrealistic-looking zombiesthat the player in the video shoots, which shows the action parts of the game as well as the visuals. While this is an impressive piece of footage from someone who is clearly dedicated to the cause, it’s not something that is going to be made public for a while. According to the video’s commentator, the creator is interested in making a full version, depending on community interest.
This is also by no means the only time fans have remade aResident Evilgame. Back in February of this year, someone remade the original game in theRE4engine, giving it a boost in visuals while tweaking some of the controls and gameplay aspects. There were also reports of a remake ofCode Veronicacurrently in development. With such dedication in the modding community, it’s clear thatResident Evilis a series that is screaming for fan contributions. Here’s hoping that this new remake goes a long way.
The 2002Resident Evilremake is available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.
