AResident Evilfan has seemingly recreatedS.T.A.R.S. member Barry Burton’s signature weapon, the Samurai Edge. While there have been no recent sightings of Barry in recent games (his last appearance beingResident Evil Revelations 2), his signature weapon remains a gaming community favorite.

Barry Burton and his signature Samurai Edge first appeared in the original 1997Resident Evilon the PlayStation as Barry’s personal armament. It also appears in theResident EvilHD remake wherein it was an unlockable item that could be accessed upon beating the game on normal or hard difficulty in under 5 hours. In that game, it has unlimited ammo and does not need to be reloaded making it one of the strongest weapons next to the infinite rocket launcher also available as a secret.

Reddit user ParadoxicalAmalgam shared photos of his custom Samurai Edge gun complete with a custom Kendo Gun Shop gun case. While the weapon looks to be complete, the owner has stated that they wish to have the slide engraved in the future. Comments from the post have ranged from the usual praises to comical responses stating “It works against the undead too, just might take more shots."—an obvious reference toResident Evil’s zombies.

More images of the custom weapon can be found in theoriginal post.

The Samurai Edge most recently appeared inResident Evil Village(or at least a version of it). However, Barry’s is still the most unique due to it being based on a different gun model. Keen fans may know that Barry’s special handgun is based on a 96FS rather than the usual 92F from the other versions. The creator has also stated that the trickiest part in making the recreation was the compensator, as well as finding the 96.

Fan art and customs such as these are not new. However, while mostResident Evilfans regularly do cosplayfor more recent or more famous characters, references to older characters (or in this case older items) are rarely done. However, the Samurai Edge has played a recurring role inResident Evillore—becoming a signature weapon of the S.T.A.R.S. team. With its association with another figure in the Resident Evil universe, Joseph Kendo, the gun has developed roots deeper than its first appearance. Hence, Barry Burton’s model still retains that accolade of being the first version of the weapon to be seen in-game, and that’s why it will remain special in the history of theResident Evilfranchise.
