Riot wants to bring its FPS,Valorant, to consoles sooner rather than later, though it will be a while yet. The company has been growing even with all theLeague of Legendsplayers criticizing the company when they’re losing a match. Regardless of whether players agree with the company’s decisions, Riot’s use of high-quality trailers, art, and music, as well as its foray into other mediums such as the hit animated seriesArcane, has been a successful recipe.Valorantmay have the bones ofCS:GO,but the addition of champion abilities differentiates it. While there’s no telling when it’s going to happen, the port to consoles is on the way.
Riot Games was founded in 2006 and releasedits debut titleLeague of Legendsin 2009 to international acclaim. It used its own client and wasn’t available on any other, and that wouldn’t change until 2021 when it was released on Steam and Epic Games store.Valorantwasn’t produced until 2020, but there’s no telling if it will take the same amount of time to port this time around.

In its latest Dev Diaries video, Riot’s Executive Producer onValorant, Anna Donlon, brought up that it was developing the port but that it’s going slower than it and the fans hoped. Riot’s engine is tricky, being unique and over a decade old, making porting difficult. WhileRiot’s continuing its work onValorant, in the video it assured viewers it was working on new meta systems to crack down on toxic behavior, new ways for players to earn loot, as well as other game modes like Team Deathmatch and Premier Competitive Mode.
WhileRiot has a lot of workto do before players seeValorantcome to console, it seems determined to make it happen. For added emphasis, it’s entered into a deal with Microsoft and intend to have its games playable on the Xbox in order to make good on that deal. To incentivize it forLeague of Legendsplayers, linking a Microsoft account to their Riot account automatically unlocks hundreds of playable champions as well as skins and other content.
Riot is excited for their games to make it onto consoles one day. But if Riot bringsLeague of Legendsto Xbox, using a controller may be a difficult transition forveteranLeagueplayers.Valorantplayers who have only played using a keyboard may also struggle to get used to a controller.
