In a new statement, Rockstar Games teases that there will be major “surprises” forGrand Theft Autofans in 2020. There have been several rumors suggesting thatRockstar will be announcingGTA 6this year, and that announcement could be one of the big things that the company is planning.

In a post announcing free rewards forGTA Onlineplayers, Rockstar said that “there is still much more to come in 2020,” including the addition of an open wheel racing series as well as new vehicle types. However, the post also toldGrand Theft Autofans to “expect more big updates and a few surprises as we move forward into the year.”

While Rockstar doesn’t talk specifically aboutGTA 6here, some fans have taken the post as a confirmation that some sort of announcement is being worked on. On theGTA6subreddit, a few players have joked that the “surprises” will likely be something akin to the reveal of a vehicle that fans don’t want or the announcement of a remastered version ofGTA 5for PS5 and Xbox Series X, but some seem to think that it’s aGTA 6tease.

GTAfans are often talking about the next game in the series, and small details frequently arouse serious speculation within the community. For instance, players were recently discussing if aGrand Theft Auto 5billboardmay actually be hinting atGTA 6’s setting, and it is thus not surprising that the new post from Rockstar has fans looking for clues.

That said, this speculation comes not long after a stuntman’s social media post seemingly confirmed rumors that the game will be set in the 1980s, and the reveal of this detail may mean that an announcement is imminent. Additionally, the company’s tax report recently confirmed that it has just received a huge amount of money from the UK government, which may mean thatGTA 6is in developmentand that Rockstar needs more resources to fund it.

If Rockstar is indeed planning to officially announceGTA 6this year, that reveal may not come until the end of 2020, and a former Rockstar employee recently said that fans shouldn’t expect any sort ofGTA 6trailer or announcementany time soon. That doesn’t mean that the company isn’t developing the game, but it does suggest that fans won’t hear about it this side of E3 2020 if its reveal is even one of theGrand Theft Auto-focused surprise that Rockstar is planning.
