Now, rumors have begun to circulate about the future of the game past its current season.During a recent episode of Giant Bomb’s “The Xbox Era” podcast, journalist Jeff Grubb revealed thatRoller Champions' days were apparently numbered. Grubb reported that Ubisoft was planning to cancel the game following the conclusion of its third competitive season after a recent string of Ubisoft cancellations. The roller derby-inspired game has struggled to catch on with fans since its launch, maintaining low viewership numbers on Twitch. WhileRoller Championsdid not go in detail on what changes would be made to the game, the one fix Ubisoft did address was the upcoming addition of “cross-invites,” allowing players to party up with their friends across multiple platforms. The game’s dev team would tease “exciting stuff planned for the next seasons,” but placed a clear and heavy priority onimproving the content already inRoller Championsfor fans. The team concluded its statement by reassuring players that it would “keep fans updated” with any new developments related to the game.

The rumors surrounding a cancellation forRoller Championscome fresh off a set of major shelvings from the developer. A recent financial earnings call revealedfour different games from Ubisoft have been canceled, including big-name titles likeSplinter Cell VRandGhost Recon Frontline. The developer reportedly also canceled two unannounced titles with little information available about the mystery games.
