Summary

A formerSegaemployee has recently been teasing fans about a possible crossover between Sega and Capcom.Capcom is familiar with crossover games, such asMarvel vs. Capcom,SNK vs. Capcom, and even the controversialStreet Fighter x Tekken. Capcom has even lent its properties to the strategy RPGsProject x Zoneand its sequel, which were crossover games featuring Bandai Namco, Sega, and Capcom characters. It appears there may be another crossover between Sega and Capcom in the works, according to former Sega character designer Satoshi Okano.

Satoshi Okano is a former designer who worked onSonic the Hedgehoggames, such asSonic JamandSonic Adventure. Okano would formally leaveSegain 2006, establishing his own studio and continuing to do character design work. Despite no longer working at Sega, Okano seems to be teasing fans about some sort of upcoming collaboration between Sega and Capcom.

Okano first posted a “secret message” on Twitter, where he asked everyone to enjoy playingSonic the Hedgehog,Samba De Amigo,Street Fighter 6, and make a reservation (i.e. place a pre-order) for theupcoming Day One Xbox Game Pass gameKunitsu Gami: Path of the Goddesses. The first two games mentioned in his message were Sega properties and the latter two were Capcom IPs. He says he can’t reveal the reason why yet, but it might be revealed in the future. In a follow-up tweet, he made a reference to the “Wait! Let him cook!” meme, including the #Capcom and #Sega hashtags in his post.

Satoshi Okano Teases Fans About a Sega and Capcom Crossover

Fans immediately began speculating and responding to what Okano was teasing, as his statement was vague and yet still promised something that mentioned those specific titles. Most fans responded with Okano possibly teasing aSega vs. Capcomcrossover game (which he later denied), while others theorized it likely could beavatar cosmetic DLC forStreet Fighter 6. Okano’s coy responses to inquiries from fans only intensified the speculation, with the only consistent thing about his cryptic tweets being 2024 and Capcom’s upcomingKunitsu Gami.

While many gamers would likely love to see apossible Sega and Capcom crossover fighting game, fans should keep their expectations in check, as these tweets could amount to nothing. If fans are looking for a crossover fighter between these two companies, there’s the non-profit Sega vs. Capcom fan game, which pits the rosters of Sega’s characters against Capcom’s. The fan game’s first demo was released in January, featuring iconic characters like Sonic, Ryu, and Mega Man X, among others.
