It’s been almost five months since viewers last saw everyone’s favorite innies fromSeveranceappear, and already they’re getting a brief taste of what might be to come thanks to Apple’s recent iPhone 14 event.

DuringApple’s iPhone 14 event, the company decided to drop a brief teaser for the next season of 2022’s surprise hit involving the show’s standout character, Helly, according toTechCrunch. Although the teaser was only eight seconds long, it does give the viewer plenty to think about, factoring in all that happened at the end of the last season.

In the brief eight-second teaser, Helly (or her outie Helena) appears to be standing in a subway station waiting for the next subway to come in while theSeverancetheme music plays in the background. Then, briefly, there appears to be static interfering with Helly before returning to a normal image. This could be up for interpretation. It could mean that Helly has switched back to her outie Helena or vice versa. It could also mean this is an image that Lumen has projected as a safety precaution now that Helly and the other innies have gotten a taste of what their lives are like outside their work environment. A lot ofpossibilities forSeveranceseason 2.

It could also be a sign that Lumon’s influence as a company is continuing to fade. As they revealed more and more of the mystery, it appears Lumon is not as tightly run of a ship as viewers originally thoughtasSeveranceseason 1 went on. They presumed that the Innies were too ignorant to be curious about what their lives are like outside of work and what measures they would take to find out. Between Helly’s suicide attempt and Dylan’s attack on Mr. Milchick, they should have realized the innies were trying to find out more about themselves, but they evidently and incorrectly thought their safety measures were too infallible for them to possibly get out.

The real question is, did the teaser hint at what they did now that the innies have not only gotten out of their workspace but have also revealed world-shattering information to their outies family and friends that could shake so much up? Mark’s sister now knows that his previously assumed to be dead wife has apparently been alive the whole time, which she is sure to tell Mark’s outie. Will they reset the innies so that they have no memory of what they did? That may not prevent them from getting suspicious about their personal lives again. Plus, their outies, or at least Mark, were starting to take issue with how Lumon runs things.

Themany questions that come withSeveranceare what makes the show such a good real-life application of Plato’s allegory of the cave. The truth is, while there are conveniences to having a completely separate mind and subconscious for work so that your personal life doesn’t distract you, there will come a point where you’re going to be curious about what else life has to offer, especially when there are others who are encouraging you to do just that.
