Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s open world gameplay means more Pokemon to catch and more Pokemon to battle. With three different storylines, you want to have more than one team at your disposal. Pokemon with unique dual-typing can come in handy when battling Team Star and the Gym Challenge. One that you may consider is Dragalge, the Poison/Dragon-type that evolves from Poison/Water-type Skrelp. Given their habitat, you’ll need to have the ability to swim if you want to catch the Mock Kelp Pokemon.
Where to Find Skrelp and Dragalge in Pokemon Scarlet
Paldean Sea
The great thing about Skrelp is that you may find it in every part of the Paldean Sea. The downside is that you’ll need Koraidon/Miraidon’s ability to swim, and you’ll want to be at a high level (around 40s). You can find Skrelp in the south, east, and west Paldean Sea, but it’s recommended youlook in the waters of North Paldean Sea. Not only will you find Skrelp, but you may chance upon a wild Dragalge.
The best way to reach this area is to fast-travel to the North Province (Area One) Pokemon Center or the Watchtower.
Skrelp are far more common than their evolved-form, so if you want to skip the evolution process and jump straight to getting Dragalge, look along the southeastern shore of North Province(Area One). Specifically, it’s the shore that clings to the Ruchbah Squad camp (Team Star Fairy crew). You’ll find a single Dragalge surrounded by Skrelp. Its level will be higher than the Skrelps (43-ish), and you can increase the chances of catching it byusing Dive Balls or Net Balls.

Another way to get Skrelp and Dragalge is to catch them in Tera Raids. Skrelp appears in 2-star Tera Raids while Dragalge appears in 5-star and 6-star Tera Raids. Unfortunately, the 5/6-star Tera Raidswon’t be available until the postgame, so if you want Dragalge before The Way Home main quest, you’ll want to get the one in North Paldean Sea.
How to Get Skrelp and Dragalge in Pokemon Violet
Trade or Transfer
If you’re playingPokemon Violet, you’ll notice that Skrelp and Dragalge will be replaced with Clauncher and Clawitzer. Unfortunately, Skrelp/Drgagle is a exclusive toPokemon Scarlet, meaning you’ll have to get them a different way inPokemon Violet. You have two options: trading with another player, or transferring from another game withPokemon HOME.
Trading involves setting up a Group via the Union Circle. If you’re using wireless/online,you or the other playerwill need to Set Code and distribute it. Once this code is entered, you (or the other player) should be warped to your group. You can then make aLink Tradeand select the Pokemon you want for Skrelp or Dragalge.
If you’re transferring, you will want to place Skrelp or Dragalge in a PC Box inPokemon Shieldor simply catch a wild Skrelp inPokemon GO. If you’re usingGO, make sure you’ve linked yourHOMEaccount so that you may Transfer Pokemon in the Settings. Once Pokemon have been transferred, you can log on toHOMEon your Switch and move them toPokemon Violet.

How to Evolve Skrelp into Dragalge
Skrelp evolves atlevel 48, which is pretty high for most Pokemon. Fortunately, the Skrelp you get in the North Paldean Sea are at level 45+, so you just need to feed it some Exp. Candy to bring it up to 48. If you’re catching Skrelp elsewhere orif you hatched it from an Egg, then you’ll want to use Exp. Candy L or XL to give it the experience it needs to evolve.

Is Dragalge Good?
When Skrelp evolves into Dragalge, it loses its Poison/Water-type and becomes Dragon/Poison. This nullifies its weakness to Electric-type moves it had as Skrelp, but it gains Ice and Dragon-type weakness in return. Here are some things to keep in mind when using Dragalge:

Adaptability (Hidden)
Powers up the moves with the same typing as Dragalge (ie: Poison and Dragon-type moves).
Stat-wise, you’ll notice that Dragalge’s best strengths are its Special Attack and Special Defense. This means it works better as a special attacker and special wall than it does as a physical attacker. Even though its Defense is lower than its Special Defense, Dragalge’s an all-around Pokemon with its main weakness being its low base Speed and HP. Low Speed speaks for itself, but a low HP can be Dragalge’s downfall even if it has a high Special Defense stat. This meansit can potentially take a powerful attack, but it won’t have enough HP to withstand too many.
However, Dragalge’s typing and Hidden Ability mean it can be quite versatile. Although its Poison/Dragon, Dragalge can learn moves like Thunderbolt (Electric-type), Shadow Ball (Ghost-type), and Scald (Water-type), giving it plenty of coverage. Two moves you’ll want Dragalge to have areSludge BombandDragon Pulse. This will give Dragalge STAB when it attacks and, if it has its Hidden Ability, a bonus from Adaptability.
Although its Attack stat is lower than its Special Attack, teaching Dragalge the moveDragon Tailpairs very well withToxic Spikes. You can set up Toxic Spikes on the field, then use Dragon Tail to force the other trainer to swap out their Pokemon, thus inducing the Toxic Spikes' effect. The only way to get Dragon Tail on Dragalge is to chain breed oruse the Mirror Herb to transfer the move.
