The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis famous for having a passionate community of talented players, and one of them has made a real-life replica of the game’s iconic Steel Greatsword. Creating art from wood has strangely been popular inThe Elder Scrollscommunity, as aSkyrimfan recently made an Alduin pyrography piece. Yet no matter the medium, it’s becoming apparent that Bethesda made a truly captivating world inSkyrim, as artists who were inspired by the game keep coming back with new fan art even a decade after its release.

Like allSteel weapons and armor inSkyrim, the design of the Steel Greatsword follows a finely ornamented Nord style that has even made its way toThe Elder Scrolls Online. It belongs to the second tier of weapons that the Dovahkiin can come across, and it is the two-handed version of the famous sword that debuted with the default Dragonborn in theSkyrimgameplay trailer. Needless to say, it’s not just a random claymore taken from the game, but arguably one of its most recognizable models.

The wooden replica was made by RetrO_rion, who shared the completed greatsword on the officialSkyrimsubreddit. RetrO_rion claims that his greatsword was made from Ilukee’s model on Sketchfab and that using it as a point of reference saved him a lot of time. He went on to explain that the Steel Greatsword was made as a Christmas present for a family member and that the results turned out much better than expected.

The intricate detailing of the blade’s Nordic patterns was burned into the wood, and the soft pine not only gives the Steel Greatsword a nice contrast against its leather parts, but it made the process of carving and sanding it down easier than had RetrO_lion used a denser type of wood. As epic as the blade may look, RetrO_lion did make an observation that the Steel Greatsword wouldn’t be a practical weapon in real life due to its bulkiness, though one might probably make the same claim regarding mostweapons inSkyrim.

The Elder Scrollsfans have no doubt enjoyed their time in the Nord province of Tamriel, but asSkyrimpasses its 11th Anniversary, players slowly turn their gaze toward the future. Though thesetting ofThe Elder Scrolls 6remains a mystery, the most credible rumors and educated guesses place the upcoming sequel in Hammerfell, High Rock, or a combination of both. Given that Redguards are famous for their prowess as sword masters, it wouldn’t be out of reason to see RetrO_lion make Hammerfell Steel weapons in the near future.
