ThePlayStation 5is set to arrive at the end of the year and the console is already exciting fans with its new features. TheDualSense controlleris set to be an evolution from previous PlayStation controllers and a recent patent from Sony suggests that the controller will have interesting features. If the patent is being implemented on the DualSense it seems that the controller will be a significant departure from the DualShock controllers of the past.
Many fans of the PlayStation consoles were excited by the promise ofhaptic feedback featuring in the DualSensecontroller and it seems that there are more new elements in the controller. If this patent is implemented then players will have a variety of ways to charge their controller as well as some additional buttons, although whether they have a specific purpose is unclear.

The patent describes a new charging feature, “a wireless charging adapter that can snap onto a computer game controller can be inductively coupled to a charging base to wirelessly recharge a battery in the controller.” The ability to both plug in the controller and an additional power pack will likely please players who often run out of battery on their current controller, although adding a chargeable pack is not a completely wireless solution that some may have hoped for. While some fans have predicted thatwireless charging would feature on the DualSense, there are additional buttons which mark a significant change from previous PlayStation controllers.
It seems that the wireless adapter for the charger will also have an additional “X” and “O” on the back of the controller which would be the first time a Playstation controller featured buttons on the backside. The patent explains, “The adapter also can include keys that mirror keys on the controller so that a gamer can remove the adapter with a controller from the charging base, keep the adapter on the controller, and use both the controller keys and adapter keys to control a computer game.” This will easeconcerns from players that the DualSense would not add back buttonsas many have looked forward to the prospect. It seems that the controller will allow for this option, and although it likely won’t be a necessary component for a PS5 game, players who want to customize how they play will enjoy this adaptability.
There are still a lot of rumors surrounding the upcomingPlayStation 5, but many players will hope these new features for the DualSense make it to the final release. While it may not be a game-changer for all players, additional buttons will allow some players to play more comfortably on specific games. Many will now look forward to a fully charged customizable experience.
